Event id #2941 : Lockdown 2020 Fun Compo
As we already have a CSDB Emotional Music compo and there have also been some themed intros, etc. I thought it would be fun to launch a short mixed competition for the coders. The LOCKDOWN 2020 Fun Compo.
Compo rules:
No major strict rules. Basically create a fun short demo, intro or game based on COVID-19. The only major rule is that we don't want anything that would do other people harm, and make upsetting content. We want something to cheer us up during these hard times. So the program should be fun.
NO SEUCK, NO GAMEMAKER stuff. It has to be programmed in BASIC or Assembly!
Entries can be submitted directly on to CSDB, as .D64, .PRG or .TAP format. No size restriction :) I'll also be joining in the fun.
Voting will be based on an online voting form, commencing MAY 2020.
Have fun!
No prizes. It's a bit of fun. Also expect to see something from me during this time. |

Sorry, I didn't clarify the rules correctly. Here's a final update from the last post:
As we already have a CSDB Emotional Music compo and there have also been some themed intros, etc. I thought it would be fun to launch a short mixed competition for the coders and graphics people. The LOCKDOWN 2020 Fun Compo.
THIS IS A MIXED COMPO
Compo rules:
No major strict rules. Basically create a fun short demo, intro, graphics or game based on COVID-19.
Only a few rules: to qualify
- Max no. of entries = 3
- Use of SEUCK, or any type of C64 Game Maker is not allowed to be used
- Program should run from a BASIC loader, or Action Replay fastload
- REU is acceptable
- Demo/Intro/Game should be programmed in either BASIC or any form of machine language (i.e. Assembler, TurboRascal, etc...) There is no rule against cross-compiling ;)
- Music / charsets from existing games or demos are also accepted in the compo.
- If making games - Don't hack commercial games. The work of the game should be your own
- Have fun!
Entries can be submitted directly on to CSDB, as .D64, .PRG or .TAP format. No size restriction :) I'll also be joining in the fun.
Voting will be based on an online voting form, commencing in early MAY 2020. (The same type of media as I use with the Official C64 SEUCK Compo) :)
No prizes. It's a bit of fun. Also expect to see something from me during this time.
I look forward to see what you can do. |

Lockdown in Germany was just extended until May 10th. Compo deadline extension as well? ;-) |

I think we have enough entries for the compo. :)
I might think about it tomorrow. But I cannot promise. |

Really think about it, Richard. Afaik GER is not the only country in which REAL(!) life will only start veeery slowly.
I hereby threaten scene to launch another fun compo the day after tomorrow if you don't change your mind ;P
PS: Just in case some nerds might wonder why there ain't a far higher level of activity these days, some of us haven't just got endless extra lockdown nerding time due to special things like work and parenthood both of which I regard as gifts and won't complain about. |

I vote for a second compo. For those of us who fought until the very last minutes, and uploaded our contribution five minutes before midnight, it would be a bit of a downer to see the deadline extended. Just my two cents :) |
