Release id #207806 : Soulless 2 - The Armour of Gods +2D
Submitted by iAN CooG [PM] on 4 September 2021
Yeah, sorry for commenting on the game instead of the release.
I also think it's a pity having a 1 side only for the intro&dox. Rest of the rel seems ok.
Regarding the race for fast rels for points, you have to go back to the 90's, it's not something new.

I know… but back then the cracks were weighted more towards quality, too… at least in some of the charts. |

There was a time when size mattered. Gamer's Guide was the reason for many groups using really ugly crap-intros just to be high in the charts. Thank god those times are over! |

and ripping out intros, omitting pictures, no docs, etc. indeed thank god those times are over. |

Well, the better groups would pack data down with better/faster crunchers, allowing cool intros to be put on there… some would even take multi disk games and pack them onto a single side.
Taking a single side game and making it 2 sides just feels like a step backwards… to me, anyway. |

ok, having crap intros was the bad result of Gamer's Guide, but GG also compared amount of trainers, overall release quality, etc

obviously 2-siding ain't no good and the right way to go would have been optimizing crunching
Don't know the original image, but I guess in this particular case, releasing the docs as extra file (on side B if necessary) plus picking a somewhat smaller intro might have been an easy solution - if the 9 free blocks on the actual game disk are real, a proper intro and trainer screen shouldn't have been a problem. And gamers (believe it or not) are more often annoyed than thankful when crackers force them to skip or even read docs, of course even more so if they are forced to flip disk for an originally 1-sided game - no matter if they care for the docs or not. |

there was still a huge focus on shortest version, which produced a ton of shit releases |

At the end of the day, the points are only given for the 1st to the post. The quality of the release and added features are not given any weight if you are 2nd. We could have made a mega trained jewel release on EasyFlash but there is nothing earned for this. Admittedly the majority of the ExCeSs team were at work or whatever, so the most time we could offer was what we delivered. I tip my hat to Sailor who still invested time and energy in the IFFL version. |

At the end of the day Sailor is the one who gets some respect. The others get... points. It seems to me that only the first of these options seem like it has substance. In comparison, to chase points sounds like a game for kids. At least in these days. Somehow those points make me think of the Emperor's New Clothes. |
