The FTP protocol is finally deprecated in Firefox and Chrome...

...so the FTP download links don't work any more (at least in these browsers).

Furthermore, if a download link points to a http:// page, it also fails (at least in my Chrome).

Just so you know.

I don't have high hopes, but it would be cool if this would be fixed.

In Vivaldi I just went to vivaldi://flags#enable-ftp and enabled it, in chrome, just use chrome://flags#enable-ftp and see if it's the same.
Other than that, when this flag will be removed for good, just associate ftp protocol with another tool that supports it, like your favourite generic download manager (flashget, jdownloader, etcetcetc)

imho ftps are not going to die soon, too many rely on them and this limitation is just plain useless, there are not only browsers to download files, there are plenty of ftp-capable tools

Yeah got it, but can't this be fixed on the site so the people don't have to mess with browser flags or whatever to download a file?

That fix would be to serve some other protocol than FTP instead. Something that is deemed secure enough by current standards.

That would be the best, indeed.

What's with that anyway, is 100GB storage so expensive?

I think commenting out the code to create external links is too tricky :)

No.

If people chose to host their files somewhere that's only accessible by a now deprecated protocol the only way that can be "fixed" now is to copy the file to somewhere else.

Feel like uploading some files for a bunch of unlocked entries? :D

I'd say disabling the external linking is step one. Before that happens... futile exercise
