Screenshots are for pixel exact 320x200 C64 screenshots mainly with 16 colours. That's why. And it was made 1982-1992.
If you want a screenshot for non c64 stuff, just convert it to a png. Should be easy these days, as it's 2021, and everything. ;) |

Yes, this is not a compatibility issue ("its 2021 and everything"), it's simply not wanted for screenshots, for other technical reasons.
Transforming pixel graphics to the frequency domain, with their razor-sharp edges, will invariably result in crappy quality. Thus PNG et al. |

Yeah, we always had a rule in work: JPEG for photos... PNG/GIF/BMP for anything with text or where definition is important. JPEG really doesn’t work well for lo-res images IMO... |

its not like back in the day we had razor sharp pixels on the CRTs :) but just nitpicking, png ofcourse. |

Oswald: Yeah, the arbitrary insistance on emulator-made images without any kind of scaling, effectively forbidding realthing pixel aspect ratio... different story. =) |

So, if I take a photo of real CRT/LCD screen, would that be allowed as a screenshot for a release? Could then JPG be allowed or should it be converted to PNG nevertheless? Or is only accepted option PNG from emulator? |
