WANTED: PETSCII Art
Since there is no website currently dedicated to all the great PETSCII Art that was common on Commodore BBS's, I'm thinking about starting one up. However, I currently only have three disks of PETSCII Art files, so I'm looking to increase this collection before starting a website. If anyone has any disks of PETSCII Art, either self-made or buffer captures from BBS's, I'd be interested in getting copies. Please contact me here, or send me an e-mail at wiskow@verizon.net. Thanks!

,png files with few colours will always be smaller than the corresponding .jpg files
I've got plenty of this stuff from BBS on some old disks, South of Heaven, Tunnel of Wares, Citadel of Illusion whatever

Thank you once again to everyone for all the great links and suggestions.
And BTW, I'm quite well aware of lossless and lossy compression methods, color palettes, etc. I've been doing this sort of thing professionally for the past 14 years... ;)

You should have told us that earlier because you scared the shit out of me when you mentioned jpeg!

To be quite honest, I didn't really think that using a lossy format like jpeg would be that big of a deal with such lo-res images... But your points are all quite valid.
Due to the tremendous response I've received on all the various lists and forums I've posted my original request on, I have WAY more images now than I ever expected I'd get. Rather than converting EVERYTHING for display on a website, I'm thinking now that it'd probably be better (or at least much easier) to just make a page with a showcase of some examples of PETSCII art, telling a bit about some of the history of it, and then have d64's available for download of everything that I have... I think I've got about TWENTY d64's already full of original SEQ files of PETSCII graphics. Now it's just really a matter of finding the TIME to go through it all and do it properly! ;)

Of that, I have no doubt! ;)

i wanted to revisit this topic because i was looking for a website dedicated to petscii art and couldn't find anything significant. i remember every bbs big and small had tons of petscii logos and graphics on display. i'd love to browse through hundreds of pics rather than watch a demo of pics from the same group of artists. anyone aware of any sites? thanks. |
