Platform tag & other ideas

It would be really nice if here on csdb we could unite with other small commodore scenes. Like on Pouet each release could have an additional platform tag, so we could allow entrys from vic20, plus4, c128 etc. I suggest to have only the 8 bit commodore line machines, as the amiga line is too far away from the c64 scene, and it has its own sites since ages anyway.

Would be fun to see here viznut's/britelite's fine vic 20 demos, various plus4 releases, etc.

Probably this needs major DB changes so maybe this is just something for CSDB V2.

other ideas:

- it would be nice if the topic lists would be breaken up into pages.
- search function amongst topic titles would be more useful than getting 1000+ results of various random topic posts or atleast different hits from the same topic could be united into just one single hit.

Since it's "Commodore Scene DataBase" I think it is valid to include VIC20 and C16/+4 stuff, especially because both of these scenes share a lot of sceners with the C64 scene.

I vote to remove all non-c64 stuff.

In case TDJ isn't sarcastic, I second him. Other platform C64 tools could stay, though.

i'm going to be difficult and say i'd like to see other formats in the database but with a filter so that those who want to stick to C64 stuff can "hide" the other platforms. This is nothing to do with me having some Plus/4 and VIC stuff in me catalogue at all, nope. =-)

Me sarcastic? Never!

But in this case, I'm really not. There's enough <crap> in here as it is, we don't need more coming from other scenes.

And TMR, why are you here while c64.sk is being abused? Go go go! That smile don't fool nobody!

I don´t care.
Everybody seems to be doing his C64 stuff on a PC nowadays.
Me aswell, but I only use C64 programs in Vice.
Aslong as you enjoy yourself,it doesn´t matter..

Can i help it if i have a life occasionally and was out all day?! =-) Thanks for pointing it out, though.

And i still like my idea; you can decide to filter out whatever you want and i can decide to filter out whatever i want (and there's a few things i'd like to filter! =-) and it makes it as pure a C64 or as general a Commodore 8-bit scene site as the individual wants it to be! There's quite a bit of crossover to the other Commodore machines, Dekadence, Cosine, Creators, Resource, Fire f'example.

Just saying that only c64 releases should be here poses a problem of definition.

Are we talking only releases that are fully runnable on plain c64 with no extra hardware?

We could try to formulate some strict rule saying only releases runnable on certain c64 based machines and tools targeting such machines.
I personally think that is both impractical and unnecessary.
There is stuff in here targeting only special peripherals and hardware modifications.
Should that be removed aswell?

Should we allow more 8-bit machines?
I don't know really.

Currently C128 and C64DTV are the only alternate machines allowed, though they actually are C64-clones with extensions.

A VIC-20 is different in many ways, and if we are adding VIC-20 stuff, what would stop us from entering PET-wares from the 70's?

Very difficult to draw the line...

That said, I agree that there should be a separate field for the architectures and special hardware that is already allowed.
C128 Tool, SuperCPU One-File Demo, etc...

Well, we're talking scene releases so the 1970's PET stuff is out for a start unless it really is a scene release...? The VIC isn't a massive "market" but it could do with being shown off somewhere where people stand a chance of appreciating the work done. Personally, i just want C16/Plus/4 for selfish reasons, although they do have Plus/4 World already... =-)
