Questions from a complete MMC Reply+RR Net n00b

Yeah, that would be me then.

I get these error messages:

In WarpCopy: No reply from 192.168.1.64:6644. What's wrong?

On the MMC Replay: I press F1 to start filebrowsing. Screen just quickly flashes and I'm still at the main menu.

Can someone please explain what I need to do to get this working. And write like your explaining to a five year old.

OKTHXBYE!

Remember to start codenet on the c64.

On c64:
type "codenet" or press [F6] to start codenet.

Edit: Remember also to connect the RRnet to the network ;)

@sad panda is sad:

No. How do I get the program over there?

I should have configurated the IP correctly. I used SETIP and the C64's got 192.168.1.64 and my PC 192.168.1.3. The text says "ROM file successfully updated."

@MdZ:

Typing codenet in BASIC doesn't work. Any other ideas?

Have you read: http://retrohackers.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=60 ?

iirc, you need an SD card mounted to enter the filebrowser and the SD needs to be FAT16 or FAT32 formatted.

You need to download the "The Final Replay" ROM and use setip to give it an IP address and THEN flash it onto a free bank on your MMC Replay. When it's flashed to a bank, you can start the rom and you should have a BASIC prompt with a banner saying something like "**** THE FINAL REPLAY V0.8 ****".

THEN press F6 (SHIFT+F5 for the complete n00b :P) and CodeNet will start and you see a black screen with the IP and MAC addresses and some other info.

THEN you start WarpCopy on your pc and make sure the correct IP address of your C64 is entered at the bottom of the programs window. Then press the "SEND SERVER" button and verify on the C64 screen that it loads the WarpCopy64 server thingie.

Next insert a 1541 floppy and press "Directory" in WarpCopy on the PC...

This is all from my memory, which might be slightly corrupted!

Oh, yeah.. the IP's need to be on the same subnet of course, e.g. PC IP: 192.168.1.65 and C64 IP: 192.168.1.64

oh, yeah.. and although WarpCopy Client is a GREAT!!! program.. it does have its quircks ;-)
Sometimes you cannot restore the minimized window by clicking the icon on the taskbar, then you need to right-click instead.. weird ;)
Sometimes after writing an image the program seems to hang. Then just press "Directory" and all is ok again ;-)

Hey guys,

Thanks for your answers so far. I finally got some time to look at this again.

* I can now see the files in the filebrowser (F1), I can start programs etc. I see the directory from a floppy in Warcopy on the PC and I can extract single files without problems. But when I want to copy a whole disk side, this is what I see after a while:

At first, things seem to run smoothly, but after a while, the blue squares appear and nothing seems to happen (apart from the fact that more blue dots appear). What does the blue colour mean? http://www.oxyron.de/html/wc64.html only explains green, yellow, red and black. I've tried with different disks. Same result.

* I still can't Send Server. What could be wrong? What does this mean anyway?

* I flash the Final Replay and this is what I get on the standard blue screen when pressing F6 (or type Codenet):

Codenet:
RR-Net found. CS8900A Revision D

What is this used for? I see no MAC address or IP.

* I do this from http://retrohackers.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=60: "5.1. In the Command Shell you CD to the directory where you unzipped the stuff. Then simply type: codenet -x WARPCOPY06.PRG -n 192.168.0.64" but I get the error message:

C64 did not acknowledge file transfer request.

Why? As I said, I can start the Warpcopy server from the filebrowser. Do I need this?

when those blue squares appear (usually linear, not scattered like normal blocks) you have most likely hit that damned bug in the warpcopy server (usually it should indicate a packet that was lost, and the server should resend). in such case, often opening and closing the floppy drawer for a second makes it go on ...

this should only happen occasionally though, if it *always* happens, then check your network setup.

Thanks G! Will try that.

I managed to copy a whole disk side without "Fast IEC" (as set in WarpCopy on the PC) but that took like 10 minutes. I use a 1541-II drive. Does that matter?

"blue square" means packet loss. Something is wrong with your network. Are you using a C128D with plastic case? The one I tried wasn't able to use RR-net stable (lot's of packet losses too).
