SID originals that are actually covers
This kind of information is (usually, but not always) included with STIL, but anyways, does not seem to be common knowledge here and there.
Personally, i was a bit surprised to learn about:
Zoids - Synergy - Ancestors
International Karate - Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence
Turrican Title Theme - Transformers (1986) - Escape (and the end tune, too)
Lazy Jones - Star Dust - Electronic Ensemble - It Happened Then
What else is notable, from the top of your heads? =) |

Quote: I don't think it even pretends to be original, but STIL information is missing for this remix of Crockett's Theme:
https://deepsid.chordian.net/?file=/MUSICIANS/S/Sequencer/Crckt..
Recognisable cover part doesn't start until 1:07 or so.
Valid, added. It surely means nobody played the tune that much to notice it ;) |

Probably coincidental but parts of GRG's "Lazy Bytes" (which is one of my X'2018 faves) remind me of the verses in this song:

it's really a cover of it?
I wouldn't say it's a cover at all. Not even remix. It's a cypher, at best ;-) |

I think I saw this in an earlier thread on the subject: Ed Starink vs Jeroen Tel : Syndrome |

Technically off-topic, but somewhat related.
Noticed a certain resemblance of parts of "Rambo: First Blood Part II"'s original main theme by Jerry Goldsmith (and its SID cover) with
the main theme of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" by Ennio Morricone (and, e.g., this SID cover).
Then got confirmation. (And eryngi noticed the same earlier while trying out Rambo on the flute.)
Now, how far this goes into plagiarism territory (and whether this was common knowledge all along)... you be the judge. =) |

Perhaps related, perhaps just a "what's this tune"-question, but...
I came across Reyn Ouwehand's Last Ninja 3 tune of the water level (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKUdEv9oylA).
I never listened to this version (nor the cover version that's here on CSDb), but I know that intro melody really, REALLY well. I can whistle along with it perfectly, until the "asian style" music starts.
Anybody know if this was some 80s or 90s pop song or something?! |

Jeroen Tel is one of my favorite SID musicians. But some of his works were not completely original like Iron Lord soundtrack. Good thing is i learned this directly from himself, he was quite open on this. They weren't like covers from bands but more likely anonymous/folk songs etc. I remember him sharing some youtube links for borrowed melodies of Iron Lord. |
