straight from YOUR playlist

if you encounter a piece of sound so great you want to hang yourself for not being able to write something of similar quality...
if you think you've just found the best music ever made...
if you think a certain song/tune/symphony contains some unusually awesome elements...
...and you want to share it with other c64 composers and not necessarily via your facebook wall, just do it here.
explanations, reviews and so on warmly welcome.
one link per day max.
have fun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX4jVaqQusQ - simply a masterpiece of mood, not to mention uber-sounding chord when bassline drops to C :>

@tlr: why need softsynths if you have a special guy solely to do synth soundprogramming in the lineup? ;)
@Jammer: perfect chord choice indeed!

now playing: one of the most unexpected choruses ever.
not only it kicks in after three bars of postcanto, it's also sung by a vocalist other than 'violin cords' jens himself. and what a vocalist it is - if you think leonard cohen or tom waits have the deepest, lowest voices in business, please take a listen and admire calvin johnson's register, like i do.

Another "classic" again. I never liked anything too much that Gabriel and Collins did when they were separated. But together they were an ingenious team and had quite some highlights. Not comparable to stuff they did much later IMHO.
Also notable in that time were some of their quite "british" lyrics.

@jssr67: I agree. That's a nice song from a very nice album.
Watch out for pick tapping by Hackett at 2:36.

Todays featured song from me:

Yukihiro Takahashi, one of the pioneers of synthpop. As catchy and intelligent as the Beatles in their prime.

hey, perhaps quantity dropped a little, but the quality makes up for that :)
that madrugada tune reminds me of shriekback's 'underwaterboys' a little...

particularly recommended: 'it stays' and 'so glad'.
probably the best contemporary songwriter i know (most unknown for sure). the amount of great chord changes and melodic turns in his compositions is killing me :'|
did i mention that besides singing, he plays all instruments on all of his songs - saxophone, guitar, keyboards, bass, drums?
rather mindblowing.
