DYCP can be controlled with a joystick. 2nd part: sideborder tech-tech control with joystick. 4th part: sideborder sprite scroll speed. 5th part: joy up/down: sprite multiplexer control. left/right: scroll speed. 7th part: sprites can be controlled.
How is that different from "i was not aiming at old-timey low-complexity things (where "animation" is obviously ruled out) allowing you to control raster splits or DYCP movements and stuff like that"?

you are right, wrong example. But the others linked some crazy cool stuff, would be nice to see similar things in the new prods.
(What if someone created a new compo for demos with user mode? :-) )

Well, DYCP records are often supposedly broken with speedcode that only allows a particular path..
"Supposedly" :) Where's the entry in The Book insisting on how it must be done?

But there weren't that many user-controllable parts in the 80s anyways, so scratch the arbitrary distinction of "proving real-time rendering" for the purposes of this thread. =)

Is this request restricted to c64 demos only? Because there immediately are a few amiga demos that come to mind...

In the last part of Protogeo 100% with the rotating vector cube, you can keep some keys pressed (iirc "a", "s", "d") to "freeze" the rotation around the corresponding axis (x, y or z).
