Event id #3060 : Plain PETSCII Graphics Competition 2021

Fullscreen, baby!

Not gonna make many restrictions - there are so many restrictions IRL, art should remain as free as possible

BUT: As in former compos, anything using sprites, ECM, animation, other hankypanky will be moved to a sub category ("Mixed"). And I reserve the right to disqualify poorly-wired pr0n and other troll stuff, e.g. 8x8 gotta be reeeaaalllyyy good to be not disaqualified.

So basically pretty much the same as 4(! time's passing...) yrs ago

More info about to follow asap.

Cheers
TheRyk

PS: Be aware it's not started yet, so any uploads before Sat 8th are also not competing

As Joe oneliner-ed this week:
Quote:

CSDb, not scene, but the best place for scene-cmps

OF COURSE people without a CSDb account (people keep telling me how hard such a thing is to get nowadays) can compete. Just email me your stuff to ryker[ÄT]freenet.de by May 22nd. You can also contact me when you need help with doing an executable.

Anyone WITH an account of course normally uploads their entries here themselves.

Looking 4wd to your entries,
I hereby declare this bazaar open, now!

Cheers
Ryk

In what way is it hard to get a CSDb account? Just asking.

You'll have to release something first

Cool start yesterday and today, competitors!

Just btw: Old rule 3 entries per competitor and category (Graphics/Wild) is applied again, i.e. when you hand in more than 3 entries, you decide which one is in or out of compo. If you don't do that by end of compo, the oldest entry (of 4 for example) will be set "out".

Keep em coming!
Cheers
Ryk

PS: Just remembered and checked, 2017 amount was ltd to only 2 entries per competitor and category, but as 3's already announced, 3 shall be the number in 2021

great entries in the first days!

Just BTW voting is gonna be done externally with the same old voting disk code I blotched together some 8 years ago. Self-votes are elmininated mathematically.

This is not to discourage voting on CSDb, just for clarification.

More than one more week to go!

Almost one more day till deadline = 23:59:59 CEST today = Sat 22nd

Even so far: What a blast of quality this time!

Voting-Disk: might take me till mid of next week as I've got a guest and don't think I finish it before Pentecost is over, so stay loose :)

Yepp, indeed it seems that the PETSCII trade has evolved even further. 1980s' kids wouldn't have believed their eyes :)

Voting disk is done (after some days of ripping),
voting's open till Sun 6th of June 2021, 23:59:59 CEST.

Sorry, for not modifying that old code, but have been busy enough ripping.

Competitors:
- I triple-checked everything, but please check again if $d020 $d021 $d018 (lower/uppercase)
are set as in your released executable (screenshot is irrelevant).
- Be aware you are also invited to vote, because:
- Self-votings will be cleared from the calculation automatically, so it does not matter how
you vote for own entries.

Voters:
- Really read these two text screens before and after the voting.
- If your real hardware CRT monitor or emulator doesn't display enough top border, it says
TOP FI GO SO OH PIC NUMBER
PIC NE OD SO NO 00? OF 064

-> Default at start is "GOOD" move joystick #2 LFT for better or RGT for worse vote.

After all the voting is done...
- Use [2]/[1] to revise (don't be irritated to see the initial screen again, SPACE)
- Once you pressed [Q] file "VOTING" is saved. There's no scratch routine on purpose.
- If all went well, there should be a proper reset and a non-blinking disk drive LED
and 229 instead of 230 blocks free containing the file "VOTING" somewhere.

Most important:
- Mail your voting disk image (as .d64) or just the file "voting" (as .prg) to
ryker[ÄT]freenet.de by 6th of June 2021.
- As voting is totally public, I need your CSDb or Forum64 handle.
- It is possible (but a little lame) to vote for Main or WiLD compo only,
but it would be cool if you quickly fill out the following and paste it in your
email:

A. My personal top 5 entries of main competition (give 5 ENTRY NO.s between 1 and 64)
================================================================================
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

<- These 5 entries receive some additional value in voting system depending on your ranking
If you leave them empty or do not send them, no entry will get this bonus value by you.

B. My rating for the 5 WiLD compo entries (give each of the 5 entries 1,2,3,4 or 5 points)
================================================================================

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

No zeroes, no half points, no hankypanky will be accepted.
For voting help, here's a list of the WiLD entries again

 1	Cloud Face
2	Decompress Extended !!!<-EDIT wrongly got "03" instead of "02" on disk!!!
 3	Don't Do It, Giger!
 4	Groobot
 5	Hokuto no Ken-Ken-Ken-ken-ken-ken-...-...-...

Have fun!

VOTE VOTE VOTE PEOPLE!

And pretty please if you don't vote, do complain a lot about "exotic" results, when they are published. It's not my fault when only a fistful of dudes join this jury, it's free for everyone with CSDb or even Forum64 account and it's open till Sun night 23:59:59, some 3 and a half more days.

So grab some drink, a joystick, your favourite easy-chair and enjoy the PETSCII voting!

Cheers

@Manganoid: No worries, I'll ad the info (own-entries) to the data and the voting code will eliminate it when calculating the average.

Reads to me as: extra sensitive fake votes will be applied and redacted as required by the regime :)

Of course, Lemonheads know PETSCII (preferrably such done with cross-development) including made-up voting plays a big role in EU Socialst Stormtroopers' commando plans for worldwide regime change and humiliating NTSC scene!

BTT: some 30 more hours! Vote, vote, vote! Gabbo, Gabbo, Gabbo!

Voting closed some 25h ago,
thanks voters.

As announced, fitting the data and re-code it for some regime-change PAL release using Notepad++ and other cross development tools might take some weeks, especially making the results release crash on NTSC always takes a lot of time, read more about it on Lemon ^^

Seriously, Summer's just begun here in far North GER, plus some other things in the pipeline, so hold the line!

Sort of embarrassing to return some 7 weeks later just to tell you the results are CALCULATED by now (ain't that good news!) but won't be released/published before Mayday! Air Base Conference V , i.e. around the 60th of June /o\

I'd never publish results before some worthy presentation release is done but really underestimated how long renovations stuff (home improvement) can take, especially when kindergarten's closed again (this time for normal Summer Holidays... after the last 4 times were due to Pandemic). Handling heavy machinery while nursing my kid didn't leave much energy for nerding around.

So hold the line, fellas!

Results are finally on, also #27-#64 of main and #1-#5 of WiLD compo!

Thanks for the patience
