Handle id #7263 : Mega

According to the creditsscreen in Multi Everything he was a member of Bros, but since both entries are locked I can't add this info into the database.

Do I sense faint traces of a furious hidden aversion against locked entries and those who lock them? Perhaps we should bury them in strange kinds of cheese and pretend to forget about them, until they stop breathing?

I'd say: Locking entries is for cowards and lamers.

Locking entries can be a good thing, but only when all info is complete.

Why good? You can't be sure it's complete, right? Maybe that's the case in most cases, but then it happens every now and then that someone forgets that someone was actually involved (since it was not mentioned in the scroller or something), or some new CSDB-category pops up, making it possible to add information not added before and so on... ...but, that's really another thing. Back to my question: Why would it be good to lock an entry? The database is backed up after all if someone freaks out, right?

Isn't it happening quite often that people complain about entries that are locked (alright, you didn't talk about all locked entries now, but entries that might be complete, but still)?

1) If the person responsible for the release in question has added all info, uploaded the file & a screenshot I think it's ok to lock it.

2) If a person who was involved in a now dead group has added all info & members to the group I think it's ok to lock it.

3) If a person maintains his own entry & has completed his group-history it's ok to lock it.

What's definately not ok is people that come here once, lock groups & releases & never show up again.

Agreed, it might be ok, but... what purpose does it serve, really, except for potentially locking out some forgotten information (even though most likely nothing was forgotten and so on)?

The only purpose I can see applies in the cases I listed above, so no one can change correct information.
In all other cases it's just like you say, it locks out correct or missing information.

Ok, maybe this discussion starts to get a bit pointless. Perhaps I should just shut up, but I just don't understand.

Is it a real problem that happens every now and then: People that changes correct information so it becomes wrong?

...and, in any case, is it really so common so it outweighs all those occasions when people want to add info, but the entry is locked?

I just don't understand why people do not PM me, I have offered my help thousand times.

I don't think Perff is going to disable the ability to lock entries or change this system anytime soon...

The problem with PM is that its a big obsticle, motivation killer, and adds a delay in the submittion cycle.

Think about it, your completely into your adding, its like a trance, nearly everything is done by automatic, add release, add group, upload release, add credtis, you notice that this perticular person was a group of ABC, have to add it, and boom, you run into a locked entry, crap, dead end, no time to send pm to Nafcom/Perff. Hell, I add the screeenshot and take care of that group connection later. Then you start over with a new release.

The problem is that later hardly ever comes.... . .

Well, there is nothing I can do about it really, I am not member of the CSDb crew. Anyway, the entry got modified as requested by Zyron by PM.

Iopop, you can always add a new scener to a locked group from the edit screen of the new scener. The only thing that doesn't work is connecting a locked scener with a locked group, but as long as only one of the two connecting pieces is locked it always works.

I know, I've been forced to remove 'illegal' members from the Focus status several times ;)

steppe: Yes, I know. Have used that sometimes. So my ramblings above would reflect the situation Zyron was having with Mega.
