Event id #2868 : Nonstandard Time Signature Compo 2019

Vote sheet send. Would really prefer a "ranked" voting system. I always feel if I judge every tune by itself there's too little room to differentiate, but if I try to make votes comparing the tunes (what I usually do) some get a lower vote than they'd deserve "standalone". Hm... First world problems ;-)

Anyway: So much awesome music! <3 Great job by everyone!

Agree that Keygen... should have placed much higher!

Ah, I forgot to use sheet, but all in all I think it wouldn't affect the results much anyway. Congrats to winners and runners up.

Wonderfully varied entries, and my top nine were all excellent.

Keygen was indeed technically great, but there were half a dozen more engaging tunes IMO - I guess my heart has different combination ;)

Mibri, you were in my top three!

One of these years I'll get my act together about an entry, but in the mean time thank you all for the music, and thanks Karmic for organising!

@ChristopherJam Technical value? - Nope, I'm talking about musical values here like: rhythm, melody, harmony, phrasing, and logical structure - these are ingredients that I personally take into consideration, when I'm forced to give points from 1 to 10 in music competition. You cannot value other people's taste, but those elements of music - oh dear Lord, yes you can and you should:)

What a great compo this year! :-)

While "keygen 2 your heart" is also my personal favorite from this compo I'd like to remind everyone: in the end it's all about the voters taste. And keep in mind: when you say something like "should have ranked way higher" you also say (in the subtext) that others didn't deserve their place (?). At least I always felt so, when I got a higher rank in a compo than the "real good musicians".

I'm always happy when I get one of the last places, so I don't have to feel ashamed to "steal" a good place from a good musician.

But to be honest: I somehow I don't think there are "good" or "bad" musicians left in C64 scene, just "different" musicians making "different" styles. Some may call this "cirkle jerk", but I don't know - when I check competitions from 10-20 years ago there were really "bad" entries - today there are none or the "bad" entries are "forced" to be bad.

Anyway: I'm drunk an babbling stupid stuff :-) Congratz to everyone and thanks to Karmic for organizing!

Love!

Sure, I'm largely on board with this, particularly the bit about there being no 'good' or 'bad' scene musicians, only musicians doing different things, albeit with varying degrees of success.

Let me modify my statement about 'Keygen...', then: I was surprised that it didn't rank higher - I'll happily take away the 'should have'. I'm not about to try and start policing anyone's tastes.

It was a tough compo for sure, loads of great entries which I continue to enjoy (including yours, Spidey). Perhaps the competitive element of scene compos (logically the principal element?!) can make things a bit spiky and possibly contentious from time to time, but I'm really quite sure that it's necessary; if we're all trying to blow each other away then it makes it better for the listeners and advances the craft! As long as it's done with a sporting and comradely spirit. :) So, even though the ranking is decided after the tunes have all been released, in a way I would consider the ranking as the means to great music's end... The music is all that matters really.

Holy Blip!
I didn't even expect to catch a place in the upper half of the ranking! In between such high quality competitors / fellow combatants I really have to say "Thank You" to everyone for composing and listening!

Happy Holidays everyone!
