Event id #3270 : Island Fun Compo

ISLAND FUN COMPO (Commodore 64)

„I’m looking for 30 dead guys and one woman.“

Well, not really. But it's time for a fun compo related to the beloved point and click adventure game THE SECRET OF MONKEY ISLAND!

Rules: (almost) NONE!

Prizes: See above.

Challenge: Create a picture based on the famous Mêlée Island title picture (see references).

Each artist decides if they want to take this dead seriously or if they just want to have fun, both are absolutely perfect.
You can try to match the reference as closely as possible, add your personal style to the picture or create some arty abstract painting, as long as the original scene is still somewhat recognisable.

This competition is all about fun and not about winning, anyone who takes part is a winner, but if you do have a CSDB account, feel free to vote anyway!

Category 1: Still picture

-Provide your still image as a single PRG file.
-You can use any graphics mode that runs on a vanilla C64.
-HiRes, MultiColor, FLI, sprites, borders, CharMode, PETSCII, whatever.
-If using an interlace mode, max 2 frames.
-No animation or moving parts allowed.
-Music is allowed.
-The actual picture shouldn’t be covered by logos or text.
-Workstages are not required, but optional and very welcome.
-Wiring is allowed, but we encourage you to spend some time cleaning it up if you chose to wire.

Category 2: Wild demo

-It can be a single PRG file or fill maximum one D64 image.
-Animation, music, sampled sound effects, ghost pirates in the sideborder and dancing 3d pirahna poodles, anything goes.
-Anything you can squeeze into a vanilla C64 is allowed.
-Just remember to stick with the Mêlée Island theme.

Please send your entries to islandcompo@cheesepirate.com before midnight (CET) on the 15th of May 2023.

I think I may be participating.
just a quick test to get into the mood... please don't use this as my entry though ;)
I love the theme of the Monky Island and wanted to do something with it for long time

Awsome! I look forward to seeing your finished entry/entries :)

Remember, you can do multiple versions as well, if you want to do one with some animation/effects for the demo compo.

Don't worry, I won't be adding any entries unless they show up in the compo inbox. People with CSDb accounts are free to add their entries here themselves if they want!

If anyone prefers to keep their entry anonymous until the compo has ended, they can send it to the compo mail address and just add a note about wanting to be anonymous, and I'll add it for them without any credits.

Never mind, I'll retract my entry. Don't want to sit in an empty compo category, it's the opposite of fun.

I'm sorry that I ruined your fun, that wasn't my intention.

I thought having another compo category for island pictures that aren't of Mêlée Island would be a better solution than not allowing those pictures at all. Obviously I was wrong, and I apologise.

thanks and no worries, I just thought with a fun compo, pretty much anything goes as long as there's some connection with the theme.
anyways, no harm done, low effort entry, no time wasted ;)
