WANTED: Someone to convert ANSI to PETSCII

Howdy.

I have commissioned some BBS screens in ANSI format that are simply amazing. Unfortunately, the artist doesn't know anything about doing PETSCII.

I am willing to pay to have these screens converted from ANSI to PETSCII. The graphics are not heavily shaded nor full of dual-color cells.

The URL to the graphics is:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By1chBa0OtQpVzhNdlNvYXJJbHBfQ..

If you're interested in the job, please PM me with a price and when you could have it done.

Biggest issue with the screens provided is they're 80 columns wide.
Scale down to 40 columns, and suddenly there are many many blocks that have two non-background colours.

Any conversion's going to have to lose either detail or colour fidelity.

petscii and typical ansi gfx is made very differently anyway, so anything but a complete remake wouldnt work at all (or look like crap)

That took me about 4 hours. I'm sure a more competent artist could do it much more quickly. Now I don't know about you, but I'd say that's a pretty fair approximation of the original.

well, thats not a very advanced ansi screen to begin with - when they almost only use filled blocks like this one, you can even do it with a script :)

Such a script would be a great service the community. Care to put your skills where your mouth is?

@King Durin: Yes, well done. But I'd say don't give up so easily on the original artist: anyone who does ANSI should be nerdy enough to be interested in PETSCII as well. Of course it would be cool to introduce him to the real machine - e.g. with a nice PETSCII gfx collection like Tales of Esgaroth ; I could imagine that it does catch his interest. Of course if you find a suitable PC editor, to make it easier for him to play around a bit, all the better. Sooner or later he'll get himself a breadbin anyway, I'm sure. :-)

OK,

I created a tool Petscii Converter 1.0.0 to convert the JSON from http://petscii.krissz.hu/ to SEQ.

A lazy and non-1337 option for the more complex ANSIs might be Playscii. It supports both ANSI and PETSCII, so perhaps you are able to convert it somehow. I didn't try it myself though.

Did not ever try, but wouldn't it be an option to downscale with Photoshop/Gimp/whatever pre-wiring to 40 tiles width, save as BMP and then use tool by algorithm?

In case colors clash, rework manually with
Petscii Editor 4.6 by fieserwolf

No idea if this works out, just saying
