Covers that you thought were original C64 tunes..

Back in the eighties/early nineties I was a HUGE nerd that never went 'out' or listened to music or whatever the cool kids did (OK, all of the aforementioned still applies, but.. :D)
That meant that pretty much the only music I listened to came from the glorious SID chip. In the years since there has been many occasions where I've heard a tune on the radio/TV/mp3 and gone "WOW! They made a cover of the tune from demo X" and then a second later "Uhmm.. wait a minute.. it was probably the other way around".
Some notable examples:
* Domino Dancing / Pet Shop boys. I thought this was a C64 original up until I heard it on the radio a couple of years ago :D
* The tune from some Success demo, turned out to be a Koto cover
* The superb introtune from Partytrap. It was not until I read the comments here on CSDB that I realized it was a cover.

OK, am I the only one who has experienced this? :D

hehe no ;)

took me some years to realise that quite a few of TDMs tracks are covers, such as Live_in_Leningrad.sid or Eleanor_Rigby.sid .. hehe.

Another one most people will not know are the Spijkerhoek sids, of which Edwin van Santen's version probably is the best well known.. i loved this tune so much that I even bought the cd-single which is nothing else then a tune from a dutch tv-show back in those days :)

As I grew up with pop music and 60s stuff as the Beatles or Stones I was often introduced to classical music first by playing all these old games 1982-1985 which often used classic stuff.

examples: Jet Set Willy, Gyruss, Friday the 13th, Sailing, Tales of the Arabian Nighs, Elite, Battle through Time

I still admire Rimsky-Korsakov.

TDJ .. I can understand with that specific song, out of all the songs it's not the best known of their work.

rough, as for classical , not like the original author could sue for usage, so they were easy target. It's like club'd to death by rob d (in the matrix) is a samuel barber tune =)

my favourite covers. .hhmm hypersports by martin galway /
l.e.d. storm by tim follin / venice in peril by ashley hogg (it's on the zzap sampler thing)

one of the first demos I saw ever was

The Bogg Collection Volume 1

but I didn't know all of tune songs.

there was a sample thing YEARS ago of "everyone was kung fu fighting" , I knew of the c64 thing before the actual song.

enola gay by OMD , I remember hearing on c64 first.

it's weird when it's the other way around .. e.g. lazy jones & zombie nation and the very obvious one thats going on at the moment. I wanted to know if anyone on here owns a sidstation, if so PM me, I'm just curious about a few things, thanks.

I just recently found out that Pie Tree by Ben Daglish is a cover of Rydeen by Yellow Magic Orchestra!
I've ever liked that tune. ;)
He has also covered La Femme Chinoise by Y.M.O.! Nice that they even has the album-art in the Here We Go-demo!
WE M.U.S.I.C. 5
I was quite amazed when i heard the originals!
