Weighted average, again.
Ok. Could somebody please, once and for all, in a clear manner describe how the weighted average ranking system works, and what is the reason for using it?
I Code with My Sunglasses at Night 100%
Four votes @ 5, and one vote @ 7, yields a weighted average of 6.2... Why is that good? |

HCL = LOL!
Well,3x10,2x9 & 2x1 (downvotes)= 7.1
Well, that is representative.. ;)
Sceners should vote more,myself included.
The current system is pretty okay,I think. |

Elmo found a bug! Give Elmo a hug!
And sceners should also be able to decide if they want to participate in this childish, stupid voting-fuss at all. If transparent voting is an option, to exclude yourself from the whole voting system should be an option as well. Pretty fucking please!

I've asked Perff to address this in CSDB v2. As we all know, votes and comments are often biased or personalized. The voting system is not indicative of the overall views in many cases and I think most file owners realize this.
An option to turn them off should be best left up to the creator of the file. Upload your program, allow others to view it, delete it after downloading if they desire but keep the drama where it best belongs... The Young and The Restless :) |

I believe my words said "are often" not "are always". Big difference :) |

The voting formula is indeed UTTER CRAP. |

Also it's OTTER CRAP.
But seriously, why is this system neither explained, nor fixed? Why not just have it so that one vote = one vote? |

Actually, it _was_ explained. When all (or at least most of) the releases/sceners reach a certain (high) amount of votes, the system will start to work. So, CSDb will have a more or less objective chart in a couple of years. Till then, just try get used to it. |

Yeah, I read some supposed explanation of it, but it was certainly not comprehensible, nor did it provide any reason for using this statistical atrocity instead of a normal mean average and letting every vote be of equal value. (Yes, I realize there are "downvoters", but the solution for this problem is not having the average rating formula try and figure out which votes are "real" - that's for a psychologist to do.)
Also many entries may never receive more than 10, 11, or even 5 votes, in which case the "wait a couple of decades and all will be fine" argument is lost.
