BASIC demos and Game Submission (related to Trolley Follies thread)

First, I want to apologize for re-opening an aspect of that topic. I seen this fundamentally being talked about on multiple forums. I would have posted on the Trolley Follies thread but it was closed.

Ian Coog wrote on Trolley Follies thread the following:
"It's ok to start from somewhere, but do we really want to transform CSDb into a wannabe basic programmers database? Just dump in CSDb whatever you want like 10PRINT"HELLO":GOTO10 and be okay with it?"

Here is what I wrote on Lemon64 on topic of similar vein:
http://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=833378#833378

So as to not repeat everything I said.

Video Games is not really what the "scene" is. While games are submitted, it is mainly on the purpose of cataloging the works of "Sceners" which may include scene and non-scene works. We have sites like Gamebase 64 for games which may include games by sceners and non-sceners.

In my opinion, programming langauge used should not particularly matter for submission. However, uniqueness and certain basic merits of original works does. I've elaborated more on Lemon64 so leave it there for reference.

I'm with Ian Coog that a hello world counts as original. I think we need works to have merit whether as a demo or as a game to even be a demo or game.

That is my general position on it. Thank you for your time.

I apologize for re-opening that. I won't be offended if the topic is closed soon but I wanted to put my two Italian Liras in.

that one hand basic games are being deleted - and on the other hand you got an account here - THAT shows something is seriously wrong.

Groepaz, the reason I have an account here is obvious and nothing seriously wrong.

I'm planning on making some demo and video game releases that are going to be freeware releases through this site (and also Gamebase 64 for video games). While there is "commercial" work that is under development but also "non-commercial" work that is under development.

Remember, I was part of Retro 64 group with Fuzz and Moloch and some others. Moloch has Forsaken Labs and before that.... Arkanix Labs. I'm sure there are other sceners who has commercial and non-commercial releases. There is also precedents with Mr. Bayliss and TND. So is there anything wrong with it? I don't know.

As for the two entries: Reflected Light Entertainment, LLC. and Lightforce Softworks, LLC. One is the "publishing" side and the other is the "development" side. The reason for that is more relating to the business side of things.

FYI, I have already been a part of a demo & game development group several years ago.

The only releases I would be listing or putting up on CSDb under "Reflected Light Entertainment" or "Lightforce Softworks" would be C= 8-bit demos and games and maybe some other utility that I may decide to make. There is nothing posted in the entries because they are not ready for public release.

Is it a place holder at this time? Yes. However, when demos and games I make are complete and I want to release it as freeware then yes, I would upload them to be released on CSDb and Gamebase 64 for video game specific stuff that maybe dual released on both CSDb and Gamebase 64.

FWIW: It isn't a really big issue. I'm not going to be releasing some bullshit one BASIC line 10 print"Hello World" crap as demos or games. It would be neither. If something is going to be considered a demo or game, it needs to merit that REGARDLESS of what programming language was used and that applies to me and anyone else. I'm not calling for some high and mighty standard. I'm calling for basic common sense and the spirit of what the scene is and commonly understood. This is CSDb, after all.

I'm not against you or Ian Coog and the points made. I wasn't even judging Trolley Follies which I would think may merit being listed at some point in time once the author has made a demo or done a crack warez release or something IF the author hasn't already done so.

Alright, when I about to release something even if it's a tribute FUCK-YOU demo to you two.... (old school).... I'll expect groups deletion undone.

Until then....

A “tribute fuck you” wouldn’t make sense...
