BASIC demos and Game Submission (related to Trolley Follies thread)

First, I want to apologize for re-opening an aspect of that topic. I seen this fundamentally being talked about on multiple forums. I would have posted on the Trolley Follies thread but it was closed.

Ian Coog wrote on Trolley Follies thread the following:
"It's ok to start from somewhere, but do we really want to transform CSDb into a wannabe basic programmers database? Just dump in CSDb whatever you want like 10PRINT"HELLO":GOTO10 and be okay with it?"

Here is what I wrote on Lemon64 on topic of similar vein:
http://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=833378#833378

So as to not repeat everything I said.

Video Games is not really what the "scene" is. While games are submitted, it is mainly on the purpose of cataloging the works of "Sceners" which may include scene and non-scene works. We have sites like Gamebase 64 for games which may include games by sceners and non-sceners.

In my opinion, programming langauge used should not particularly matter for submission. However, uniqueness and certain basic merits of original works does. I've elaborated more on Lemon64 so leave it there for reference.

I'm with Ian Coog that a hello world counts as original. I think we need works to have merit whether as a demo or as a game to even be a demo or game.

That is my general position on it. Thank you for your time.

I apologize for re-opening that. I won't be offended if the topic is closed soon but I wanted to put my two Italian Liras in.

You keep bringing up DOOM for C64 project. Guess what, NO ONE to this day ever met the requirements of the so called "competition" or whatever.

Before I even attempted to see if there was ANY reasonable way to even get close to the specifications standards as expressed, I was doubtful. Not only the graphics rendering being incredibly difficult to achieve but then there is handling the WAD files.

If you can't do it then quit busting my chops for not being able to do it. I considered it might be in theory possible since it was achieved on the Super Nintendo. The SNES has a 65c816 BUT it also had a graphics chip and sound chip more capable but I wasn't as concerned about the sound chip part. I was concerned about the VIC-II limitations. There is also the fact that the SNES version has a custom RISC cpu in the cartridge for SNES DOOM.

Do note: I didn't have the source code for SNES version. I only had the PC version.

It was a problem to begin with. No one else tried. Fine. Got it. I was chastised about it then and even after wards but come on.

You seemed to forget that Fuzz and I (with a little contribution from Moloch), produced Spork64. Okay, not as complex of a game as DOOM.

Didn't you seem to forget that, Groepaz?
