Maverick and 1581 dual drive copy emu killer?

I recently stumbled upon a problem using the new Ultimate firmware.
I was trying to copy a d81 image from 1581 emulated to real 1581 using Maverick 5.04, but the operation failed after a few tracks.
The reverse operation, i.e. real drive 1581 to emulated fpga produced many read errors and the destination disk (on fpga) had a fixed pattern of $1400 of data followed by $1400 bytes to $00 for the whole disk.
Identical what happens when copying from fpga to fpga.
So I wanted to try vice (3.5 r39856) by setting two drives 1581 and trying to copy between them ... but in this case Maverick crashes as soon as it starts copying the disks.
Hence my question:
does anyone have 2 1581 real hardware to try maverick to make a dual drive copy to figure out what happens?
Will it be a problem with the Maverick code or will it be one of those "borderline" cases that undermine emulations?

First thing i'd try: switch to NTSC, perhaps that is the problem

Edit:

Maverick was developed in the US.
This explain why don't works properly in Pal Vice.
On Pal RH works weird as in Vice Ntsc.

That's it.

Hmm, so Maverick for NTSC and Renegade for PAL (or vice versa) isn't the explanation for why essentially the same tool collection exists with two different names? :|

I have always used Maverick also on RH for as long as I can remember.
Only today I found out that it was written on NTSC machines.
Never seen written or heard anywhere.
(And at least apparently no bugs have ever appeared to me until now)

Weird things continues.
One first test on rh Pal worked.
I give more info as soon as i have (hw isn't mine).

Edit: One test on U2+ on Ntsc, from RH to Fpga gone wrong.

Just curious - is there a reason you are after Maverick in particular? For the speed or the (people said so) security?

Is there even a somewhat speedier than CBM/JD 1581 working backup copier suitable for all the HW emulators/pretenders out there? :)

On a quick test with last nights VICE on PAL Maverick ended up Track 79 indefinitly and the resulting copy was crapped of course after forcing it to end copying.

Only out of habit.
I've always used it with my 1541s and it has always done its duty, so much so that I don't wonder if it was created on NTSC or Pal machines.
From the latest tests I have come to know made with the Ultimate and real 1581, it seems that the problems occur when copying from real drive to fpga. The opposite usually works.
Copying from 1581 rh to 1581 rh also works correctly (tested on PAL machine).

I also never had issues with Maverick back in the days - mostly with 1581 and FD2000 but cannot exactly state that I backup copied much. Mostly was file copying which was reliable as well.

Not really surprised (obviously any) emulation doesnt get bus timing right though.

I guess in Vice is a bus timing problem but in the Ultimate is something related to drive head "selection".
Mabye Maverick uses some weird code to switch heads during write operations that works fine on Rh but fail on Fpga.
$1400 bytes pattern sound suspicious to me.
But it's just my guess.

Interesting - on the two drive test copy I had different problematic zones but now I tried _SINGLE_ drive 1581 copy in vice using TDE et al. There it shows the $1400 problem pattern on the resulting image.
So its not limited to a two drive setup.
