Scrolltextwriting, the art of
Something I've been missing @ csdb is the possibility to vote for scrolltextwriters. Strange, since scrolltexts are a big part of what made our scene so special.
So c'mon Perff, gimme a chance to honor the really great ones, like Goldrush/Crest & Rowdy/Fairlight ;) |

Quote: My ironic answer had a tough core of "I guess we shouldn't vote for scrolltextwriters" (hey but I appreciate some of them too, eh!), and you probably will meet several ppl here too that, incredible to say this, might be not with your ideas.
This doesn't mean you have to compete at "realscene©" game with all of them.
Summarizing, we shouldn't vote for them, IMHO.
No prob, you're entitled to your own opinion, on the other hand, if you don't want to vote on it, don't vote, right?
Also, you probably mean 'sarcastic', not 'ironic' ;) |

Quote: I'm not starting a war, I'm just pointing something out.
Somebody who compares scrolltextwriting to supplying orange juice to a musician really doesn't get how important that aspect of the scene actually is. And thus the true masters of that game (because good scrolltextwriting is an art) should get their due respect.
Also, another thing: even if you don't agree with my request you don't have to belittle it.
"how important that aspect of the scene actually is"
well, its SO IMPORTANT that after many-may years of csdb existance this is the first request for scrolltextwriter voting :P :)
where there scrolltextwriter charts back in the days in the mags? :)
my 2 cents |

No, there weren't, but neither were things like 'author', 'cover designer', 'ftp-administrator', 'pr-manager' etcetera.
As for this being the first request: true, but that doesn't mean it wasn't important. Personally, scrolltexts were very important to me, I read *all* scrolltexts from *every* demo I saw and I know a lot of other people did too. Also, I loved writing them myself, so much that I even started coding because of it (changing texts using a diskmon gets boring after a while).
I just feel it's strange that it's not possible to express your admiration for somebody who really gave an extra dimension to certain products. Just check Broken Ideals for example: if it wasn't for the text in that demo I would never have held it so dear. |

imho its even more important to have the possibility to actually add scrolltexts to the database! |

I think it's useless to add separate scrolltexts to this database. If you want to read them, start the file.
Otherwise, set up a website http://scrollers.c64.org ;) |

On topic: voting for scrolltextwriters is a bit over the top, imho, but it would fit the database. I'm not against it, for what it's worth :-)
Side topic: why add scrolltexts to the database?
I can think of another 5 things that would be nice in the database. Like used fonts, a description of used effects, filesize in blocks and/or discsides, number of parts, used cruncher (nice statistics!)...
Or what about a tree structure for programs that were developed and forked in the process? :-)
I admit that being able to search scrolltexts would be nice, but I'm not sure CSDB is the right place for that. You might get quite a bulky database... and a precedent to split every tiny detail of a demo (like aforesaid fonts). |
