Improving the Private Message System usability

Okay, besides wining about the votesystem, sometimes I like to be useful as well :)

I just realized that I've missed 6 PM's from the last 3 months. The explanation is probably that I'm mostly logged into CSDb on the company computer which is used by others as well (I tend to forget to log out from my user, don't mind if someone else uses the box), so the browser is used by 2-3 people who might refresh the tab where CSDb resides, and, restarting the browser also causes a refresh. And the situation is quite like the same with my home computers which I'm sharing with my gf.

Since the message system is well hidden, I never notice if there are new messages in my inbox, only if I explicitly go to the Private Message System from my userpage (almost never). I am not sure if this is actually a wide-spread problem, but a small change on the right column would help a lot considering its usability. Especially for those who use the message system more often.

So here's my idea, what do you think? Perff?

You rule! :)

The only downside of it is that from now on I can't make silly excuses about missing the PMs I don't want to read when seeing who the sender is.

But at least I made a quite strong point about the last 6. Phew.

Added almost like the screenshot sugested. :)

I though about adding this new box and the "Users Online" as modules to the costum right bar!?

For those who don't know, you can chose which modules you want to see in the right bar, and the order of them from your user settings. (Userpage)
But for now the PM and Users Online box is fixed.

Nice work, Perff!

Yeah might be custom, but then please make it checked by default. The custom right-bar settings are also quite hidden (Userpage > Update your settings > Customize the right bar)

that's great....and considering I had 2 unread messages waiting, which I hadn't previously noticed (dating back a couple of months!) it will be quite useful as well.

The new PM-box and Users Online is now a part of the customizable rightbar.
Default is that PM is the first, then Users Online, and then as they were before.
This way these two boxes can also be deactivated if you want.
