Last Ninja - Protection modifys Disk Drives permanently?
Hello folx!
"Allerdings bekam System 3 Probleme wegen Laufwerksproblemen. Durch den Kopierschutz wurden Diskettenlaufwerke verstellt und machten diese unbrauchbar, wie ein Leser einer britischen C64 Zeitschrift bemerkte."
https://www.c64-wiki.de/index.php/System_3
Is that true that the protection from Last Ninja causes a permanent modification to Disk Drives (Disk Drive damage)? |

come on, dude - really??
if you format a disk with open1,8,15,"n:nn,ii":close1 you will have 35 tracks formatted... this is what i mean by "regular".
if 40 was "normal" then it wouldn't make sense for the early developers to put a protection there.
anyway, if you like to keep nit-picking, go ahead - i'm done. |

no. the protections that are referred to as "misaligning the drive" are those that bump the head to track 0.
Misaligning the head from software is quite difficult to achieve, at least on later models.

thats why i said "its mostly bolloks" :) that fear comes from experience with a handful early US protections used on the first longboard drives.... on later drives its not really an issue. |

Yeah only the early "toaster" mechanisms would get stuck past track 38. Power cycling the drive was usually enough to fix it, as the motor would become unresponsive for some reason.
Only experienced that on very early drives like groepaz said. |
