Telnet'able BBS'es??

Hey, I just realized - I'm probably kinda slow - that there are a couple of old C64 bbs's I used to call back in my hayday available on the net via telnet. This is ofcourse Antidote and The Hidden, which was a Motiv 8 board back when L.A.Style was a member - the-hidden.hopto.org

I wonder, are there any other boards out there worth checking out (bear in mind, I've been gone for like 7-8 years..)

Could anyone tell me what Centipede is? Of course I've seen C*Base and UCBBS in most of their popular modded versions but what is Centipede exactly? Who is behind it?

If yes: merman[at]sceneworld64.de & nafcom[at]sceneworld64.de...

Just send you an email with the latest list attached. Please do publish it, I'll send you updates on a regular basis.

Yeah go to the centipede website for the info, but in a nutshell, it is the final descendant of Color 64. It is by far the most robust and reliable (IMHO) bbs prg ever released for c64. It is very customizable (with effort).

Usually the only reason I have to reboot is because my Windows 2000 box screws up, or some piece of hardware on the C128 causes a problem. Lost Caverns BBS has been online for over 4 weeks without a reboot, and it's dual line of a multiplexed Lt. Kernal!

Having said that, from an asthetics standpoint, nothing really beats C*Base.

@Dr. Video and Nafcom:

Thanks for the bits of information.

Will have a closer look at it later.

Best Regards,

Never saw this Centipede system myself back when I called the boards, when I was still active that is, I wonder how spread out is it? To me, the most obvious choice would be C*base or UCBBS, that's the systems everybody knows, atleast as far as I'm concerned :-)

Quite a few BBS software packages were never really used by scene boards... DMBBS, Color64, Color128, Centipede, Image, CNet, ST/R, Spence, EBBS, All American, Omni, etc.

If you remember back there was a time that even C*Base was not looked upon fairly. Everyone was using some modded IvoryBBS. I do remember some boards, like Abyss (NEC HQ - before the bust) and the Garden of Edens, using CNet 64.

For a semi-complete list of BBS software check this website, lists for all platforms:

Hehe, yeah, I know what you mean...I got started kinda late, compared to you though.. I got totally used to C*Base and even the first time I stumbled across a UCBBS board I was in total confusion *LOL*...

I actually liked UCBBS pretty much.. I got used for it, and remember I didn´t understand why Tricket wanted C*base instead.. In the very beginning Dominic was running at UCBBS like many US-boards.

God I loved my modded Ivory BBS. Although from time to time it would f* up the Users REL file. :(
