Best copy program to tranfer from 1541 to Ultimate II+
I want to copy some disks from a 1541 to a D64 on an Ultimate II+. I tried this some years ago with my SX64 but it seemed the copier used did not handle CRC checks and retries very well. After byte comparing multiple copies of the same disks there were differences and some programs did crash after running them from the Ultimate.
The 1541 in the current setup has a parallel cable installed. But serial transfer will do fine too. It's not about the speed, but having gooed copies is more important here. The disks are standard formatted, no originals with copy protections.
What copy program(s) would you suggest? |

Some more testing. Now also with the Ultimate II+ internal IEC copy software. That is fast, 32 seconds for a disk. But also here disks are corrupted.
My guess is those disks are from 1985 and older. Some have the problems more than others, some have no problems at all. Sometimes I read 4 copies of the same disk and all are different, sometimes like in 22 to 46 places in the output D64. The 1541 drive also has not been used for like 25+ years. |

With such old disks, multiple head cleaning is required after each copy attempt. Old disks leave a lot of dirt on the head.
If these are unprotected disks without "illegal" sectors, I recommend mounting .crt ActionReplay
and copying to .d64 via
Whole Disk Copy with "BAM copy - NO" selected.
While copying, observe whether there are any reading errors. |

Have you tried a different SD card? |
