In the early years lots of demos made me want to be 'fucked with a fish', like the Horizon ones (the first one I saw by them made me pick up the phone & call them, leading to my dship with Bagder) but one that really stood up to me was one of the Pimplesqueezer series, no. 3 if I'm not mistaken. I had known Omega Supreme (Olav Morkrid) for some years now, he almost became part of one of those 'umbrella groups' that were so in fashion in '86/'87 (most famous one was The Last Science, mine was called Fiction) but with that demo he really blew my brains out (ah well, all the more space to be fucked with a fish then). |

I think if you look back into the scene history, there are maybe 1 or 2 demos that stand out each year. The older demos such as those by the Judges The Judges really blew me away, when you consider the effects done in that time of the scene. (It's also interesting to note that all the members were all coders.) |

I dare you to name the 2 stand-out demos of 1988. There were many more than that that year. |

If your looking for a demo where the effect's and music are well timed take a look at Opium 100% by Samar.
The rythm in this demo is awesome :)

i was never amazed by the usage of digisounds on the sid. not only does it sound crappy, it also takes away the beauty of the actual sid sounds that run beside the digis. (well, arkanoid is an exception - but there weren't real long digisounds used anyway, so one doesn't notice beforehand) |

I've never really heard digi + sid the way it's supposed to sound, coz it allmost allways use the $D418 method, which doesn't work good on new SID-chips. But digi alone can sound very cool, me thinx. The intro (the part before the sid-sounds starts trashing it) to turbo-outrun, and "digital acid" (check csdb) f.e. Ofcause it's lo-fi but sometimes that is cooler than hi-freq (if used on the right sounds) |

Further to what Cyberbrain said, anything by Cycleburner with "Look Sharp" being a personal favourite. =-) |

I find digis obnoxious and difficult to master. When used properly, however, they can take SID-songs to new heights. Censor Design almost managed this - yet no one has come close to acheiving the same quality/musicality after, in my opinion. Why is this? |

i dont quite like most censor digi stuff to be honest.... although the general sample-quality is quite nice, the high pitched carrier-tone that comes with the pulse-method sux hard IMHO...cant stand it :o)
i like the tunes taxim made for that matter...nice digi drums with not too much background noise.
and apropos outstanding demos....and digi sounds... "microsleep" by xakk... fullscreen (escos) scroller plus digis .... "hallooooo you gonna do this" :o) |
