SID chip goes comercial (again)

Look at this :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_One_(Alicia_Keys_song)

quote :
The song has a sample of a synthesizer of the SID sound chip found on the 1980s computer, the Commodore 64.

hope she has a sid station..

I guess using a sid or an emulation of it (unknown 64 / quadra sid) etc is just different from the normal arp / moog / juno sounds is part of the reason.

I sample myself, but a snippet is one thing, taking someones whole tune is different.

There is a tune, done in reason which impressed me, it uses their subtractor synth. It's tweaked in realtime and it's not bad. I guess with the new arpegiotor in v4 you could do even more tricks. A lot of people on the forum there like the sid sound and have been messing around with things like thor in the new reason to try to get a sound a like.

if someone else besides me on here uses reason check this >

http://www.reasonstation.net/songs/upl/2006/

And look for a track called '1subtractorstereoversion.rps' (about 2 and a half pages down).

I was quite impressed by that and it's just using subtractor synth tweaked/automated in realtime

btw: 'the jupiter 8 part' of the alica keys song always reminds me a bit of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbzGGN7D3RI rather than the sound of the sid chip.

higgie , the sound is probably an old synth but the one in the video might not be, as I just got CM mag this month, and I'm pretty sure it's the same keyboard, and it isn't a J8, but has the same coloured keys, so I'm guessing its another one by Roland. Although I'm not so bothered to trawl vintage synths to find out.

I have written her manager and film studio to find out if it's she.

No Sync is a guy. I found him, and his friend Deaks, and brought them into their first "real" scene group Suicide. Having talked with No Sync on the phone countless times, I can confirm he is in fact _not_ Alicia Keys. ;)

Hence the reason I made the post, so nobody would be deceived. ;)
