HVSC website relaunch
Hi folks,
we're planning to do a complete relaunch of the HVSC website. As we're doing it for you, the SID fans, we'd like to have some feedback what you think the new website might look like. Tell us about all the shortcomings and flaws the current site has and also new features you'd like to see added to it.
So far a first brainstorming has turned up the following ideas:
o we'd like to create something like a unified SID portal, incorporating some sites under one roof, for example one could think of the SID search, the SID Hunt, the STIL, the composers website. Any more you can think of that would fit in that line?
o All the lists will be database driven, so they can be conveniently browsed online again (as opposed to the zipped excel sheets we got at the moment). This includes the Ripped Tunes List (which is useful for external contributors to avoid double work), the RSID todo list, the PSID64 buglist (there are still a few SIDs that don't behave as they should on a real C64 environment). All these lists will be able to be searched by title/composer/ripper/etc..., you can set filters, sort them every way you like.
o Some tutorials on how to rip SIDs and how to compose SIDs will be there as well. So far one has to search for that info like the needle in the pile of hay (or whatever that saying is in english, I think you get the drift).
o The complete HVSC will be browsable and PLAYABLE online (via sidplug, so far the only alternative, even though the soundquality is pretty outdated compared to Sidplay2 these days). One could even think about easy playlist generation with the option to save it to the harddisk later.
o Finally, of course the current labyrinth of links and subsites will be cleaned up and simplified, so the site gets easier and more intuitive to browse. We'll add a little graphical design as well, but won't bloat it with too much graphics. W3C standards will be maintained despite that! ;-)
o (Your requested feature here)
To quote Sander, who will do the design of the new website:
THINK BIG! ;-)

Sorry folks, for offending you by naming "SID" and "mp3" in one breath. I promise, it won't happen again. ;-)
Actually it was just a side remark, but well... let's get on topic again:
I had another idea, of course again viewed through the glasses of a HVSC crew member:
How about a /DEMOS/UNKNOWN/ Hunt? We'd like to get rid of those unknown tunes the sooner the better, maybe something like along the lines of Lala's SID HUNT? People could leave comments to tunes that may ring a bell, something like "stylewise this sounds like (composerxxx)" or any kind of hint that could help contribute moving unknown tunes to their respective directories.

Dane & CreaMD: You are right. I apologise.
Steppe: DEMOS/UNKNOWN/ hunt is a great idea. And I have always missed more accurate information in STIL about the demoscene; what demos contained a certain tune for instance. Thoughts?

Yeah, of course STIL could server for a lot more information than what there currently is inside... the only problem is: Who is going to spend a lot of time entering all the information? As far as we (the HVSC team) are concerned, I think nobody can afford to donate more spare time to it than we currently do.
Maybe one day, when we'll have managed to finally release and bugfix all the tunes in our archive, who knows...?
But presently STIL has a lower priority for us than for example completing the archive and bugfixing, sorry.

I could perhaps help? I can't promise I could enter a wealth of information or anything, but if you find it's an interesting premise, I could certainly start researching some more informative STIL entries...
