Welcome back
I just bought three C64's, two 1541's, a 1570, two datarecorders, two "the arcade" joysticks by Suzo and a whole bunch of diskettes for 50 euros.
Welcome back.

Picked up my stuff tonight. One of the three C64's is flatter then the other two and has nice metal shielding inside instead of the cardboard stuff in the fatter models. I'm using that one for now. All three have the old version of the SID chip.
There's two KCS powercartridges, 3 joysticks, a working 1570 and a non-working 1541 (device not present error but it does respond to the c64 coldstarts, will check that later), a working C2N and a lot of disks of which more then half seem to have errors. There's lots of tapes and other stuff I haven't bothered looking at yet...
Seeing RADWAR stuff and a HOTLINE intro on a real C64 after all these years was special...

he isnt, but no worries :) quickest way to get one right now is probably to tell him to bring it to X and then pick it up there :) |

I hooked up the C64 to a Luxman pre-amp and Bryston poweramp.
Loaded up "Rambo" by Ocean thus reassuring I would get to hear some Martin Galway stuff first thing coming through the old TDL transmissionline speakers.
It is incredible how shit sidplay on the PC sounds compared to the real thing :o
Starting to get the vibe back. SID still is amazing.

Make sure to use a recent version of sidplay (2.5 on windows) which uses the resid-fp engine. That one sounds much better than older versions. |

The latest versions are really good. Still I have problems with filter volumes vs the real thing. Seems that sidplay and VICE doesn't compensate or emulate the volume correctly on 6581's. A voice with filter gets quieter in ADSR on a real 6581. This is just out of my head right now. I'll look at it more closely. An example is the Artillery tune. Play it on a real 6581, then in emulator. Filtered voice is way too loud in the emulators (about 15-20% louder). I'd like to know more about how it is emulated. Has all levels when different filter settings occur really been checked down to the last details? (thinking 6581 especially) |
