What's you favorite?
A number of times I've been surprised when listening to tunes that for some or the other reason have been suggested for listening by other users of this forum. I thought that some of you would like to share some of your favourites with the rest of us. It could probably broughten our horizons and at least let people hear some tunes that haven't gotten the attention they disserve. Anyone up for it? |

@Stryyker: As far as I know Martijn Schutten composed in the player by Elvin (Ventura of P.O.P/ Paradize/ Electric Brains). Which is based on the FP player, that much must be said.
To be honest I do not think of Martijn as a very good sound engineer (very poor drums for example, much too clear lead), he mostly used the instruments Elvin left in there (I cannot disclose the player sources and sample tunes).
I bet guys like Hein, Jeff and GRG can get a _lot_ more out of this player in that respect. |

Quote: And I wonder why of all those newer tunes have to sound like Jeff.
Yours don't...
Mine don't..
I should probably mention, as an extension to this (that everybody has to sound like Jeff), that I admire Hein, Eeben Aleksi, Goto 80 for their unique and creative tunes. They all have a distinct nerve to their work, that I really appreciate.
Not that I don't like Jeff, by the way. ;) .. |

ok .. now for something different:
Orcan power(play):
http://www.c64.org/HVSC/VARIOUS/M-R/Orcan/Pinz.sid (lovely game soundtrack especially 2 and 3(ingame) ;-))
This tune is special for me.. it was the first scene party I ever was (and co-organised ;-). The first time I met React-ers, Cult-ers and the rest of slovak scene. Orcan has beaten me, Lunatic and Yuro with this a bit raw, but neverthless quite amusing 4 speed thingy.. ...

Two dance tunes from the early era (which I really dig! ;-)

http://www.c64.org/HVSC/VARIOUS/M-R/Orcan/Lets_dance.sid
Ah yeah.. the final tune from the famous "The Last Reactor" demo.

And latest stuff:

Interresting stuff by CreaMD. Keep on sending ! ;)
But now for something completley different:
(to say it with the words of John Cleese)
"I" still cant find any commonality between Drax and Dane !!
If I listen to their music I can see 2 completley different persons.
But maybe Im hallucinating again ;)

I first heard this sountrack in some Italian "original" game (and of course I loved it) They usually ripped out various games or musics or renamed the games and distrubuted them under different names. ) only later I learned it was Hubbard.
I always liked the pure draxish drax stuff, when he went into more complicated constructions of the tune I was usually losing the path(ience) ;-)).That's why e.g. I loved "Valley of dreams". It sounded very early draxish ;-) As far as Dane is concerned, it seems that he is afraid of simplicity. Even the dance tune http://www.c64.sk/files/sidcompo5/Pick_It_Up.sid released last year in SidCompoV was (although extremely cool) too polished, decent, and unmistakably "danish"... ;-) |

If you don't want to listen through all of the Deek directory (which you should!) start with Crimson, Googachild and Demo Tune 9.
Scortia was name earlier but he deserves another mention - definitely one of the most underrated musicians. Three extraordinary examples of that are Nebulas, Horizon and Equinox.
My favourite in the Bluez Muz gang was always Kristian. If you listen to Ecco, Hole and Skrujern you will find out why.
Fear the Swedish SID scene! Thomas Danko has made so many good pop songs, but some standouts for me are Deformata, Elementary and Diffractions.
Finally, if you're composing on the c64 and you're not in the least inspired by Drax or Maniacs of Noise you've been living under a rock the past 15 years. I have too many favourites to mention.
Sorry for not including links, but I am lazy today. |
