i dont think the confusion was about the unusual size (although size matters, ask your gf) - but about the motive and the connection to the scene.... usually "paper art" connected to the scene don't show motives like this one. when i think of paper art in the scene, i think of stuff like this: http://hitmen.c02.at/temp/spitfreezer.png (ok, the "art" bit is questionable =D) |

so.. if i draw shit in forest, it will not be paper-art, because it is not shit from the commodore? cool to be limited
And how does it relate to the scene?:
Why Don't You Love Me?
I wanted to return to the scene, but I did not wish to create for such a scene, which is tell me what to draw, what is appropriate and what's not |

I am not the scene, I do not represent the scene.
I consider myself part of the scene though, that's all.
And I have a hard time understanding how paper art like this is part of the scene.
Art Femina #1 / Hard on You is a disc cover, that's easy.
Why Don't You Love Me? and Death Fishing raise the same question: why?
That fact that I never mentioned those, is just because I never came across them.
I'm not doubting it is paper art, I'm not discussing the form or size, nore do I have any question about the quality. Also, it's perfectly fine that you draw, paint or otherwise put to paper, wall or other surface ANY image you like.
I'm just wondering how this is part of the C64 scene in order to make it appropriate for this database, if there is nothing drawn that has ANY relation to the scene.
For me personally (and again, this is not immediately a reason to remove the entry) it's not enough that a scener draws a picture to make that picture scene-related paper art.
None of the answers above have convinced me otherwise.
Why do we put paper-art in this database that has no visual relation to the C64 scene?
(Gosh, can I be more clear than this?)
[edit]
Hell yeah:
Musicians do not upload their MP3s either, now do they? |

I agree with Mace - who made that step pretty easy. |

"Nowadays, everyone you know uses computers for creativity, some of them even being better than you, and most computer-aided creativity falls under some valid competition category at demoparties. Almost any deviantART user could submit their work in an average graphics compo, sometimes even win it. As almost anything can be a "demoscene production", being a "demoscener" is no longer about what your creative methods are like, but whom you hang around with."
Mind you, i'm fine with the release added to csdb - i'm not very anal about that. But regarding this topic, the upper excerpt is very interesting imho.

I was indeed suprised to see all those compo categories like "photograph" at breakpoint 2010. |

and i am one of those that would drop the photo compo immediatly, as i fail to see how it is "scene" whatsoever :) IMHO such categories exist because of an desperate attempt to "recrute" new people for the scene so it doesnt die all that quickly (which it does, undenyable). i would kick the mp3 compo too, for a similar reason. because really, you dont become a scener because you know one. and something isnt a scene production because a computer was used in the process. those two things are just another desperate attempt to lie to yourself so you dont have to cope with the fact that the scene is dying.
however, this database is a historically oriented c64 scene archive and if paper art wasnt connected to the c64 scene for a long time, it wouldnt be accepted at all, and probably wouldnt get added either if someone started drawing stuff on paper in 2010 :)
the main problem at this point i think is that this kind of stuff is very much underrepresented here at csdb. there might be more of such "not directly c64 related" drawings, and someone should upload them so questions like the one of the original poster do not arise :)

Wackee,
You have a really right with These Words:) Is associated with this very strong..
Mace,
Paper-art is part of scene FROM YEARS.
What pisses me off is that many people do not know about it or does not care (because they do not directly apply to the same computer?). And That`s too bad! You ask what links the scene? It's simple:
1. This is done BY the scener
2. This is done FOR the Scene
What it presents is my case. And if someone likes it or not is another question, which I frankly do not care about it.
I wanted to do something nobody has done before, so I made a larger size, but it is still paper-art..
You are talking about a new category of photo and about mp3.. but the category of paper art is for many years already! why can't you understand this? I'm surprised.. |
