Old BreadBox doesn't work with U1541
Hello everybody here.
I have a serious problem because my compo-machine for Riverwash 2014 (with old sid) doesn't want to collaborate with U1541.
So generaly I have U1541-II with software 2.6j and it works fine with my C64C and it works also fine with C128 (PHI time change is required but it's normal).
I have one C64 made in Germany, breadbox edition (old sid). This C64 works fine with Action Replay 7.x and standard floppy drives but it doesn't work with U1541. The problem is, when I choose a file to execute from U1451 menu, the blue screen appears, and I can see 'mounting' comunicate, but this is all, the C64 stops.
Maybe you have any idea where shall I start my investigation to run up the old C64 again on the track, please help. |

@groepaz. Just remember to implement these into the chameleon core to get more of a headstart :-) |

oh, 9b will be the leader regarding those tests :) (although still not able to pass all of them, VIAs are doing weird stuff in some corner cases) |

Well, how far was your thinking here, guys :).
I didn't say I'm going to run demos from U1541 during compo :D.
Anyway, the U1541 is required because most of stuff I get from people is on USB stick and it's much easier/faster to manage VFAT filesystem than copy disk files on real C64. Belive me, during party such thinks take a lot of time if managed with real C64 stuff.
If you have all prods in order, when you can decide what goes on real 1541 and what may be run from U1541 durring compo.
But even when (as you said before) you alway have a backup copy on U1541 and in case disk is broken (what happens with 20 years old disks) so you can run production from backup without hastle.
I don't see any problem to run productions (even music, gfx) from real C64 and real floppy. I'm prepared with old C64, C64C, C128, 2-sid C64G, all sort of original Commodore floppys (1541,1541-II, 1571, 1581 if required) but the true is - never, NO ONE, ask me 'hey just run my prod with floppy xxxx' - for five last years NO ONE.
So, may we come back to the root problem now? |

as for your root problem, you should try to contact gideon... its probably a timing problem that only a firmware update can fix, the early mobos are a bit glitchy when it comes to timing. (we had a bunch of related problems with chameleon as well) |

or buy a new breadbox ;) which would be probably faster to achieve results in 2 weeks.
I have sent my problem to facebooks U1541 forum where Gideon is a member but guys, I know the problem is in C64, not in the U1541, so what can I expect from Gideon? :) |

as said, glitchy timing - and it could be fixed in the firmware if thats actually the case. similar thing as this phi1 delay stuff for c128. |

Must be a timing issue then. You have other c64's so I guess not too much to worry about :-) |

Thank you very much for help and experience exchange.
I will try continiously press Gideon in this issue.
I have just bought a new breadbox in meantime. I will see if this one at last works :) |
