nominations for scenery
If I could just have a moment or two of your time... :) I'd love some help nominating the top scene productions for each year for scenery64. These can be anything from 4k's to demos to diskmags or slideshows or whatever - as long as they are outstanding productions. Look at Scenery itself for examples on what I mean (for amiga and pc) - and you'll also notice a distinct LACK of these for the c64.
Help me set the record straight for history :)
Submissions here or to my email; glennlu.nospam@c2i.net - without the nospam part ;)

Stupidity III (1996, 17.08, Multifile Demo).
code: Ed (main), TMT (doom routine), gfx: Joe, Oxidy, music: Ed.
4th in the Assembly 96 demo competition.
review: I can't really do a very good review of this demo, since it won't
run all the way through when I use CCS64.

seems to me like you have bigger problems at scenery than figuring out production of the year. |

I sometimes use emulators, yes. So sue me. I also own several hardware c64's, but sometimes I don't have the time to transfer every single demo I look at.
Emulators are tools, and will never be as good as the original hardware. If it really bothers you that much, I will transfer Stupidity III to host hardware and do a fresh review.
Thanks for the non-creative input :( |

I nominate Stupidity III as the best demo in 1996 and the review of Feedback by Triad in Scenery as the best joke in 2001. |

Puterman + Hoth: As a reviewer, do you really feel I should praise demos I don't like just because someone put a lot of work into it? But fine, I'll re-evalute Feedback also. If you think it's such a fantastic demo, you're welcome to submit your own review, and I'll use it.
Hollowman: I'm not calling you a crybaby, I was just slightly miffed at your negative response. If you don't like Scenery or my reviews, I don't have a problem with that. As for using emulators for working on scenery, I can understand this is a sensitive subject. As I mentioned, they're tools, nothing else. I don't think you can debate the usefulness of e.g. running a diskmag in the background with VICE while writing a review.
Everyone: This thread developed in a totally wrong direction from what I intended. If you want to yell at me for making a lousy production, I'll be happy to start a thread called 'Menace is an idiot', and we can all do it there. :)
Last of all, thanks for the criticism. At least it gives me some idea what to work on. |

menace, why are you gonna re-evaluate feedback? you wrote that everyone should avoid it despite the fact that it won the democompo at floppy(facing some hard competition from a qui ca sert/wd) and therefore probably was appreciated by a few, but now you are gonna think about it again just because two persons questioned you? makes no sense to me..
i dont care if people are using emulators, i do it quite alot myself but if i read a review i dont think its too much to demand that the reviewer has actually seen the demo in question, preferably on the hardware it was intended for. c64 demos were made to be run on a c64 so who cares if a demo requires you to disable 'max 1541 speed' in some emulator? |

mhh.. this Scenery thing look nice, but is totally uncomplete and not to talk about the shitloads of errors displayed, why don't you proove things first? .. don't waste time in nominations, make sure the database is growing. ;)
..anyway, i like the Scenery64. |

I don't. It looks like it is managed by somebody with hardly any real affection with the c64 scene. Might not be true, but it looks that way.
I have no problem with it existing, I just don't feel it's worth wasting energy on. There are enough similiar projects going on managed by real c64 sceners. |
