Release id #192733 : Space Invasion
Was this really an officially sold game or an unofficial hack?
Edit: OK, found the answer by myself. It's the graphically reworked version of Commando to prevent public sales ban in Germany aka "Indizierung", which did not work as expected because this version was put on the "Index" as well. |

Afaik, putting a game on the index, in Germany, meant and still means that sale to adults (18+) is allowed, but no advertisement whatsoever. Stuff is sold from under the table, so to speak. =)
But games like "Wolfenstein" were actually banned via court decision, on other legal grounds. |

The original one by M.U.S.E? Was the Id software 3D remake also banned? |

I referred to "Wolfenstein 3D" by id Software, not "Castle Wolfenstein" and its sequel.
But the latter (or at least the first game) were "only" put on the index. |

I guess the point that Groepaz is hinting at is that it's not a ban, officially, as censorship is forbidden by the constitution (which the Grundgesetz is in all but name).
Legally, offending assets are seized, such as media with content that violates the law, as ruled by court. |

On the original topic, Commando isn't very offensive, is it? What was the reason for the ban? Violence? |

Back in the 80ies basicly every game that involved killing humans was put on the index. Even Blue Max was on the index ;) |

I think the debate about "killer games" (mostly first-person shooters/shoot'em ups) is still popping up occasionally in media. :)
Just that today we find sprites composed of a few pixels comically unrealistic, while it was all they had in the 80s. =) |

Quoting tlrOn the original topic, Commando isn't very offensive, is it? What was the reason for the ban? Violence? And yes, indeed. Still not a ban, but depiction of violence was frequently the reason to put games on the index as a means to protect the youth from adult-oriented content.
