Release id #192733 : Space Invasion
Was this really an officially sold game or an unofficial hack?
Edit: OK, found the answer by myself. It's the graphically reworked version of Commando to prevent public sales ban in Germany aka "Indizierung", which did not work as expected because this version was put on the "Index" as well. |

I think the debate about "killer games" (mostly first-person shooters/shoot'em ups) is still popping up occasionally in media. :)
Just that today we find sprites composed of a few pixels comically unrealistic, while it was all they had in the 80s. =) |

Quoting tlrOn the original topic, Commando isn't very offensive, is it? What was the reason for the ban? Violence? And yes, indeed. Still not a ban, but depiction of violence was frequently the reason to put games on the index as a means to protect the youth from adult-oriented content.
For a laugh, see here: https://www.c64-wiki.de/wiki/Indizierte_Computerspiele#Liste_eh.. |

The titles on that list are no longer restricted.
River Raid and other were checked again when Activision wanted to release them in compilations. Courts decided to free them then...
This list doesn't show the still indexed games... |

Also the way this "banning" happens was (and still is!) quite strange. Unless noone complains at the authorities (BPjS), they will not check it, and banning will happen. Another interesting detail is that only the *exact* release that was checked is banned. Thats how certain cracked versions ended up in the official list :) |

But i take it you mean banning will not happen by default, and only if anybody complains there will be a panel decision on whether to ban or not. Which is quite understandable, given that they cannot check each and every obscure title just in case. :) And the exact match thing is to avoid sweeping blanket bans, i guess. Also quite sensible. :) |

From the list: "Das Spiel 'River Raid' ist geeignet, Kinder und Jugendliche sozialethisch zu desorientieren."
I wonder if that really was the original intention of Carol Shaw? :) |
