Release id #220545 : BYG Intro
not meant for public release. as it's an editor for members only. |

There are literally thousands of releases that back then were meant for members only, got spread like wildfire anyway, and they get uploaded as being part of those big diskdumps repos shared with everyone.
Once spread, it's spread, you can't do anything about it.
The only rels that usually are not uploaded (or deleted if found) are notes with real addresses, real names and other personal infos. |

again it wasn't meant for "Public" consumption as much as I could upload a few other groups editors.. but don't
every group has / had such releases. but it clearly states on the editor about how it isn't for none members. |

Yes. And still it was spread, so it’s out there, and now it’s here. |

Also slapping "don't spread this" on a release was a great way to make sure it was spread a lot. (JCH editor anyone?) |

JCH isn't the same though is it.
i.e. JCH editor anyone can make tunes. why would you want to use that if you weren't a byg member?
perhaps if there are any hitmen intros with editors I should upload em on here, so everyone can use em.. obviously most people can lift it from in front of a game anyway if they were that bothered.
i have a few others from big groups that I don't upload up here.
which bit of "they are not for public consumption" don't you get ?
also just because someone achieves a load of disks (which i assume is how they got this) . doesn't mean *EVERY* thing should be up'd..
if I did badmouth about you back in the day on a note, maybe they'll upload that also ;-)
(more likely i didn't anyway, but still.lol) |

I expect intro editors I upload from well known groups NOT to be deleted if this is the case also ;-)
better go do some crate digging :) |

yes, you should
i already uploaded all "internal" intro editors and a few other tools of groups i were in for that matter.
(and if someone really wanted to use someone elses intro, i am sure he wouldnt need that editor =P) |

I can understand you don't like it to be spread, but spread it was, obviously, blame your groupmates for this indiscretion.
Chances are: No one out of BYG will ever use that editor, so let's all keep calm and carry on. If it wasn't for this forum thread, there'd be even far less than the so far 32 downloads.
Even for faking a BYG release (if that's your concern), no one would need any tools, I'm not gonna elaborate on how much easier any half-smart soso-coder could do that.
Though it's a nice intro measured by late 80s standards, there ain't really much to see anyone would bother stealing today rather than figuring out the effects via codebase and the like.
And as you see, your vague hints (to publish other group internal "Don't spread" stuff) don't seem to impress anyone, go ahead (and betray your own moral values) or keep these files (and sacrifice revenge) ;) |
