If you grab a picture or a charset from a game, who do you credit for it?
Credits for stuff ripped from commercial releases have always been an issue...

[first of all, this isnt about "my opinion" - the rules are the result of what all moderators thought was a practical compromise]
rob hubbard released demos on compunet back in the 80s, so he definetly qualifies as a scener. (everyone knows his synth sample stuff i guess)
about martin galway, i dont know. did he do similar stuff? (it wouldnt surprise me, because a LOT of wannabe-commercial-composers did so back in the days) if not, then by definition of the rules he doesnt qualify as scener and thus shouldnt be here.
that said, i am not quite happy with how the database handles this either. (and i can understand people want complete credits) but i dont have a good idea how to work around this properly either. (without a lot of database reorganising that is, which perff only has very little time to spend on). if you have a good idea, let us know :)
(and please notice that this isnt a "omg elitism only sceners allowed blabla" thing - like always its about database integrity - it should be possible to tell wether someone did commercial work (only) or wether he comes purely from the scene. ideally in a way that someone who doesnt care about commercial game coders/artists can filter them) |

Either Andrew or Galway were sceners. Rob used Compunet did music demos to get work in the industry and he did the Chicken Song music for a demo, but a scener? No. |

I'm okay if people like those are added to the database. without adding them there would be plenty of gaps in the credits, and I personally like it when the credits to a release are complete.
I think we all know who is or who never was a scener, so what are we talking about?
how about a category 'non sceners' then? it's a simple thought but it could definitely work. |

how a bout a flag "non-scener" in scener entries. people would select this flag for entries of those "scener.php"`s who arent sceners in your definition and you could even have an option in your csdb profile to hide all the flagged bastards from your eyes. and the credits in scene productions would stay intact. aint it simple enough ? |
