Connecting a SID to an iMac
Hi,
is there a way to use a SID on a iMac? As it has no PCI/ISA port I can't use Hardsid or Catweasel directly. Are there projects to make these cards accessible via USB odr Firewire? Or are there USB versions planned from these cards? Or is there a way to connect a real C64? |

Call me a purist but this isn't scene related.
Try it at www.iwannafuckupmymacwithsoldering.com or something... |

Oh, what's that? No more friendliness in the scene? I'm really disappointed.
Why isn't it scene related? Here are many GoatTracker topics, so I thought I can ask such a question here in this forum.
And why is an iMac shit? It does everything I want instead of being able to use my old ISA-Hardsid. As my old PC crashed I'm looking for a way to use my SID by not filling my room again with an additional PC. And Mac Pros are to power consummating and expensive for me. |

No, there are no SID dongles for USB or FW. It shouldn't be too hard to create, but latency might be an issue.

iMac is shit, because it is *barely* upgradable... no PCI cards or so... and a proper mac isn't expensive... if you just need it for composing a 400MHz G4 is enough, and those are 30 euros (if not less, I got mine for free...)
also, why was scout's post not deleted, and mine was? both where off topic and sorta insulting... >.>

My post wasn't deleted because I'm right (and the mods seem to agree) and it was not insulting at all =)
Yours was a OS/platform rant which belongs to usenet or irc :P

Thanks for the answers.
There are also Firewire and USB soundcards available. Do they also have latency-problems?
Using an old Mac is a good idea, but will there work Goattracker with acceptable performance? Then I could better use an old PC or get a real C64. The problem is that I have no more space for a second screen.
Because the shitty iMac. In decades of using Computers I never came to the point to upgrade my hardware. I always sold my old one to buy new one. For you most notebooks are also crappy shit. |

when I used GoatTracker on my 400MHz G4, it ran fine ;) so that isn't really a problem =)
