We want to see alll user comments
Yesterday we had a chat about this on irc, and it looks like all ppl dislike the fact that only 1 comment is displayed on first load, as most of use wants to check all comments most of the time. How about changing it ?
ps. this will probably decrease load on csdb aswell, as most of the release pages are often transfered twice due to the current behaviour. |

Nice idea! however, first they have to fix the speed problems, this place is 'sometimes' way to slow. ;/ |

since i was the one who started this on irc, i agree! :)
now i always have to access a single release twice, or sometimes even 4 times before i can read all the comments.. waste of load on csdb..
make perff can make an estimation?
-> how many times a page is accessed now without comments
-> how many times a page is accessed now with comments
and compare the load if all pages are only accessed with all comments?
I think load on csdb will decrease.

A quick'n'dirty count says that for every 5 times an entry is viewed, it is viewed with comments one time. So basically it says that 4 out of 5 is ok with it the way it is today.
Anyway. When you say comments, do you, in the case of releases, mean ALL comments (reviews, hidden parts, trivia, etc) or just the regular comments (reviews)? |

perff, little correction
3 out for 5 is for a view without comments
2 out of 5 is for: 1 to get to the page, and 1 to get to the comment
and to the question, I think everyone will agree that only the comments are enough. |

Hmm.. Perhaps my math-skills is a bit rusty, but here is how I calculated it:
the log-files reported 5 times as many loads without comments as with.
So 4 times someone loads the page without comments, and is done with that. The 5th time, the user reloads the page WITH comments. That gives 4 out of 5 in my book?
(Perhaps my text above could be interpreted in a different way...)
Anyway. if you REALLY want it, I guess I could put it in as default &show=comments |

so for each total 6 views, there's 5 without comments and 1 with.
now, if all pages would show comments directly, this would change to total 5 views with comments.
in other words : it costs 4 views with comments and saves 5 views without comments.
-> load on csdb will decrease if a page WITH comments does not take more than 5/4 the resources as a page without comments.
anyway, i think if it is user selectable, it would decrease load always.. (i always read all the comments f.e.!) |
