Ultimate 64 user manual

Hi,

I've searched high and low and haven't been able to find any good info on how to use the ultimate 64.

I need information about all jumpers on the board, keyboard shortcuts (like how do I switch between the 2 sid's) and finally how do I use the network connection.

I know this information is probably somewhere, but to me it is impossible to find. Please help me :)

Thanks. How do I know what filter jumper goes to what SID?

No way to switch between them using a shortcut?

From the FB group:

The description is printed on the board itself. For the filters it's printed inside the SID sockets. So, you can read it when there's no SID inserted ;-)

In essence it's as following:

Jumpers:
P1: Sid1 Voltage
P2: Sid2 Voltage
On: 9V (8580)
Off: 12V (6581)

Filter Select:
On: 8580
Off: 6581

For network connection:

Using Telnet:

http://ar.c64.org/rrwiki/images/8/89/1541u_remote.pdf

Using FTP:

Use any FTP client and connect to the IP address mentioned in the Ultimate Menu.

Using ACID64 with a Ultimate 64 (or Ultimate 1541 II+):

Just connect the Ultimate 64 with a network cable and connect it to a switch or router where your PC also connects to. Then go to the Ultimate menu, go to the root folder and see if it has got an IP address. This IP address you need to enter in the preferences menu in ACID64 and there you go. You can now play SIDs via ACID64 on the Ultimate.

If this doesn't work, then go to the Ultimate menu and press SHIFT-F2. Go to the network settings menu. Make sure the static gateway is correct (the same as your PC, check with ipconfig in command prompt in Windows).

If you don't have a switch or router to connect your C64 with, then you can also connect the Ultimate directly to your network card of your PC with a network cable. With ipconfig you can check the beginning of your IP address, e.g. 192.168.1.X. Then go to the network settings menu in the Ultimate and disable DHCP and enter a static IP address which begins with the same number as your PCs IP address and make sure the last number is different than the IP of your PC. This IP address you also need to enter in the preferences menu in ACID64.

If you have two network cards in your PC, then you can use the second one to connect it to your Ultimate. Check with ipconfig the IP address of your second network card after you have connected your Ultimate to it. Follow the steps above to enter a static IP address and turn off DHCP.

Sometimes the IP address of the Ultimate isn't directly seen for the first time but after a power cycle of your C64 it should work. Just retry to connect with ACID64. Also check if the IP address after a power cycle is changed (when DHCP is enabled). If the IP address is changed, then update the IP in ACID64 as well.

Awesome! Thank you guys.

Now, I still need to understand how to switch between the SID's. I'm guessing nobody figured that out yet?

With the latest firmware (from beginning of September), switching SIDs is possible in the settings via the menu. You can specify for each SID socket which address it is listening to and you can specify the volume/panning of each audio source.

The SID configuration is automatically configured for the internal SID player. You only need to specify which SID model is put in which socket.

There's a powerful radio chip inside (the ESP32 (wroom), a dual core MCU), but it is not yet enabled.

i'd pay extra for gideon to forget about external sids, wifi, network and other useless crappery for at least a year or two and focus on the C64 part instead :=P
