Best Format to distribute demos etc?

I've recently retrieved my C64 (and 300+ floppies from the loft) and have found a whole load of music, demos etc from 1988 - 1992 that I'm sure people would be interested in.

So, not that I've got my hands on a XM1541 cable and can transfer all this stuff to the PC, what are everyone's preferences for the way to distribute this stuff?

Obviously if it's a multi-part demo, then it's obvious that you just use a .d64 disk image...

But what about small stand alone files... music with players etc? Just distribute the .prg or what?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Bizz.

Just .d64 it all, and spread the disks which you feel would be fit to spread. A complete D64 often gives another dimension to it, as it puts the file into a context of other files (like f.ex a spreaddisk) and the correct filename. If you really don't want to use D64's, then please use T64's so that the filenames are preserved.

Definitely D64 for everything. This gives a 1:1 copy of the disks and doesn't destroy anything.

For spreading I agree with the gentlemen above. For my demo collection personally I put every demo on a seperate .d64 file. Unfortunately this takes up quite a lot of diskspace, I'm eagerly awaiting a winvice version that can handle 'zipped' .d64 files :)

I agree with TDJ. Single file stuff is fine in a D64 as well. There are many viewers for D64 files, but I'm not aware of any viewer for T64s...

You serious?

Even I know you simply drag it into VICE and it works. ;)

Same as TDJ for me, i convert everything in D64 format and then zip it, then it takes up not much more space than prg or t64.

Whole disks would be even better.

Money problems in the age of 400 GB harddisks. I only have 120 gig, and collect a lot of stuff like music, movies & comics, so I need every gig I can spare.

What's wrong with gnuzip? That already works perfectly in WinVICE.
