[pal/ntsc]

Currently the term [pal/ntsc] indicates if a crack is a first release, wouldn't it fit better to use this term only for NTSC fixed cracks? (and omit it from plain imports which didnt need to be fixed)

I belive that PAL/NTSC tells us that the game works on both pal and ntsc. not ?

PAL/NTSC does NOT determine that something is/was a first release.
The fact that a release needed to be fixed to gain points however makes it most comon that a lot of them were firstreleases. There are however plenty of NTSC fixed releases that were not firstreleases.

what bordeaux said. there is no way to enter "this is a firstrelease" in the database yet. (even the pal/ntsc thing is a bit of a "hack").

i'd suggest putting such kind of info in the trivia field so we can migrate it into the new database later (whenever this will be =D)

Hahaha... the exact reason why so many discussion on CSDb are counter productive: people can't read :-D

Rough suggests EXACTLY what GRG, Bordeaux and Groepaz are saying!

putting a deeper meaning into the naming is useless imho. just put additional info into the trivia AND make sure everyone understands wtf you mean :)

Mace, i don't agree.
"Currently the term [pal/ntsc] indicates if a crack is a first release"
It indicates more then that.

Having said that I have hard feelings of apointing first release credits. Reason? Quite simple, it was difficult enough in the days of the past, a lot of groups claimed a first release on the same game, several mags were biased and sometimes even totally unfair depending on their own group or that of friends. Just judging by directory info or scroll info most often will not be good enough.
But then, someone might want to cross reference to all available mags, who knows.

@Groepaz:

Does EVERYONE understand what +4 means? 8p

Using a scene database like this requires at least some basic knowledge of computer underground history.

maybe not. that only further proves the point that the release name shouldn't be used for further info.
