XE1541 and Windows
I used to transfer between 1541 and PC several years ago but I had pure DOS mode back then and programs like Starcommander.
I downloaded Starcommander today and found that it started in a dos-window making me realize I dont have any DOS mode anymore. There is some winnt/2000/XP support in StarCommander but I could not get it to work in Vista (yes..V....ista, my only PC with a parallel port).
So.. what tool is best for transferring data between XE1541 and Windows V.....vvv....v.ista.
Else I will have to dig out my old Pentium200 I have stored somewhere :)

Afaik CBM4WIN will do what you want. I'm not entirely sure, but it's probably worth trying.

You'll need:
- OpenCBM (formerly CBM4WIN)
- XM adaptor for your XE cable
- CBMXfer (frontend for OpenCBM)

Quick check gave me some of the same Moloch points out: XE1541 isn't supported as is and it needs either to be rewired or an adaptor. Since my XE-cable is so nice (no way to open the sleeves to see/modify soldering) I will have to think adaptor.
However I'm not sure if I have DIN-plugs available anymore (too bad I cant use MIDI-plugs :) and there is no electronic hardware shop around here anymore. Any ideas where in Norway close to Lillehammer I can get hold of DIN-plugs? :-)
Where is my Chameleon 64? I want it now!... when will it be finished anyway ;-) |

Not sure which branch of eBay is close, but have you checked there or any similar auction sites? I purchased my XM adapter online through eBay.

ELA, you can use Starcommander on new computers also, if you have the LPT port on your motherboard.
Do a "ms-dos" startdisk on your floppy drive.
Then use this program to make a bootable usb memory:
http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197
In that program, you point to the file in the floppy, and it copys the msdos.sys, command.com and io.sys to usb memory.
Then transfer these files to the usb memory.
SC.EXE
SCMAIN.EXE
MOUSE.EXE (activate mouse)
SMARTDRV.EXE (speeds up the tranfers)
Good Luck!

No, SC is fun, don't bury it!
Although I mostly work with NibTools.
I boot to MS/DOS using a CD. |

Nicely built XE & XM adapter, only US$15 and shipping to Norway appears to be US$5

Just one example, there is probably something closer to you.

XE can be transformed to XM by swapping wire 4+6 or 4+5 in the one end, simply. But you have to solder a bit.. Check the diagrams on SC homepage. |

@rambones: You missed the part where ELA says he can't access any of the adapter to modify it without destroying it. |
