MMC Replay memory card woes
I guess the MMC Replay is a bit out of style these days, but I'm still using it and it works great, for the most part. I haven't found a memory card that works with it, or rather, I haven't found a memory card that will let me write to it without error. Can anybody point me in the direction of a "certified" memory card for this thing?
EDIT:As it turns out, I've only tested SD cards, not MMC cards. Could that be the source of my problems? |

I'm no expert on these matters, but yes.. I am quite sure that the SD vs MMC difference could potentially be the reason for your troubles. |

Stein, this isn't a matter of a card rather but file system on your card. You've probably formated your SD card in FAT32 filesystem. Now, format it into FAT16 and everything should be fine.
Also, for fast-writing D64 images onto 5.25 discs use Kratznagel's plugin.

How do you format anything to FAT16 on Windows XP f.ex ?
You will need some program... windows just formats all to FAT32.. ? |

I believe I did format the SD cards as FAT16. I'll do some more experimenting tonight though. I got a hold of a 2 gig MMC Mobile card and I'll try that as well. |

that question is even answered in the mmcr user manual *sigh* hint: format.exe
besides that, mmcr supports both, fat16 and fat32. it only matters when using 3rd party plugins, which sometimes support fat16 only. |

if you're command line challenged, right click you SD, select format, select "FAT (Default)" as file system, press.. uhm.. the "do da shit" button.

I have now tested 3 different memory cards, a 2GB SD card, a 2GB MMC card and a 128MB SD card. I've tested them with both FAT16 and FAT32, default cluster size. I've tried reading the same disk (no errors) 3 times each. Each time resulting in a different .d64... This is with the default d64 reader plugin. I tried D64 Reader Plugin (fast) but that didn't even create a file on my memory card. Any suggestions?
EDIT: Is the plugin source available from somewhere? Perhaps I could modify it to verify that the correct data is written for each block and retry when an error is encountered. |

Groepaz, having formated my SD card in FAT32 I had an error when writing D64-->disc using BOTH internal MMCR plugin and Kratznagel's one. Once changed to FAT16 (basically FAT) there were no more problems.
Now, the thing is that Stein has got bad results when writing disc-->D64. I've only done it a few times since I bought my MMCR and indeed, when writing a disc to D64 file only recently I noticed that the D64 image has some errors.
So... black hole. :-/ |

Well thanks for confirming my findings at least. Then I don't have to feel like a total moron.. ;-)
If I only could get a hold of the sources I'm sure I could make a more reliable plugin because it's only very little that goes wrong each time and it seems to be complete sectors that are broken. I tried disassembling the plugin binary, but it's just too much work to figure out what exactly is going on since the disassembler makes erroneus guesses about what's code and what's data.. Also there seems to be references to data defined outside the address scope of the plugin..
EDIT: I cust came across www.retrohackers.com so I'll dig around there for a while. |

uhmz. kratznagels plugin only supports fat16, so thats no wonder... the internal one should however work with fat32 too :) |
