CSDB on facebook and/or google plus

ok,

my pic Here Be Dragons has recently received additional publicity on facebook on a c64 fan page.

seemingly resulting in a higher than usual ratio of downloads.

PeteD has suggested that we should maybe exploit this extra "fanbase" who it could be assumed do not frequent csdb by creating a CSDB facebook page and maybe a new google one and feed it new release RSS data with pictures so people can be "hooked" by images rather than just text.

in this way the scene may well be able to drum up some new blood and audience.

not a facebook user personally, but, as an advertising designer i do appreciate any advantages we could exploit to gain a bigger "market share".

what do the rest of you think?

Steve

edit ok who owns the current csdb facebook page thats never updated?

I started the C64/Amiga scene group on Facebook with some 1500 members now, people post old and new productions all the time, vidoes, links, songs..

There's no need for a CSDB page on FB, as all sceners that have an Facebook account allready are in that group.

You want attention? Post your stuff on Facebook and get random applauses and free popcorn.

as i said i am not a facebook user.

but additional downloads were definitely generated after my pic appeared on c64.fans.

and i am suggesting that picture based rss feed could increase publicity for c64 scene as a whole. so why not exploit it.

i have also been told your group is closed. advertising to a closed community is rather a stupid way of conducting business in my field.

what we really need to do is advertise c64 stuff to the "open market". the none sceners.

It's not closed, you just have to apply for membership.

Good luck finding an audience for your C64 work among non sceners. Sir.

not closed but members only?

yes well that makes all the difference then. only sceners need apply.

thats the problem isnt it? the SAME faces get to see your stuff whereas obviously NEW faces saw my dragon pic and presumably downloaded it.

which is precisely the reason i think we can use the fact to get some more fresh faces in. maybe even some old ones to return to visit from "industry". being as how PeteD has most of cnet and a chunk of the UK games industry on his "list"

what about http://www.facebook.com/c64news ?

other than that, if you feel like doing such page... just do it. the RSS feeds are there, including pictures even :)

fine.
this is done now provisionally. facebook page is updating RSS nicely. facebook does not allow for animated gifs so make your splash screens attractive :)

will post the link when the name is changed to final release one.

I've gotten loads of musical contacts on the net, even known bands and real awesome pianists, contact me, on facebook, other places.

Simply, coz we do what no others do.

SID isnt nerdy, its unique.
So is C64 demos and artwork.

If you put a tune on last.fm, it can get 3000+ plays in 1 week..

I'm not sure if a CSDb-feed is interesting for people who don't already know about it. Still, I think it's a good idea! But STE, you might also want to try posting your things in pixeling communities like pixeljoint.com. Lots of people are interested in pixeling. If you really want to reach the youngsters, perhaps 8bc.org works. :D

this really isnt about me wanting to promote my stuff.

its about me noticing that a release of mine which was given publicity outside of the "usual" c64 scene suddenly experienced a surge of downloads and interest above and beyond the "norm".

the idea hereis to try to "bottle" for the use of the scene as a whole, that "x factor" which occurred. in this case it was facebook publicity.

hence the idea of feeding illustrated releases on here to facebook
