Pixel Artist Needed - Will pay $20 USD
I'm working on a pirate themed game and would like three pictures for the end sequence. As the topic title states - I will pay $20 USD via PayPal for the lot of 3 pictures. (I will have to approve of the pictures first before I pay.)
I would prefer multi-color mode, but what ever format works for you is good.
You will also get your name in the game's credits too.
Here's what I'm looking for:
1. A picture of an underground Lost City of Gold - something like this:
2. A picture of a pirate ship sailing off into the sunset - something like this:
3. A picture of a couple looking out into the sunset from a pirate ship - very similar to this:
If anyone is interested, then let me know! :-) |

So you want 3 MCOL pics for $20. Assuming that each pic would take at least 4 hours to make (which would be very fast) that would be less than 2 dollars per hour. :| |

I'm sure he meant 1700's dollars, because pirates. That would be around 1,200 dollars these days, if sites like https://www.officialdata.org/1700-dollars-in-2018?amount=20 can be trusted. (Maybe he's a time traveller? :-O) |

What do you think is a fair price then? $100? I'll pay $100 if that sounds like a fair price. |

This is for a freeware game. No sales. :-) |

It kinda depends on where the artist lives. For me as a self employed freelancer something like $20 per hour is a line I don't like to go below when doing professional work. I can go a bit lower if totally needed. But yeah. $100 for 3 pics would still be quite low. More like $250 as a low minimum estimate, imo.
Not that I have time right now anyway, I just hope no one undersells themselves.
That said, what you can do is show a demo of your game to people, and maybe find an artist who really likes the game, and then they might work on it for free. That is what I have done before on little homebrew projects. |

Why adopt a commercial attitude towards a freeware game (or towards C64 projects in general)? Think of any money paid as a nice bonus instead? It is not like anyone is forced to participate anyway. |

I have the feeling you would have more succes asking someone to contribute to a C64 game without offering money. Just someone to do the graphics for a freeware game.
$20 is such a small amount for real work. |

so 0 is better than 20 now? :D At least he offered some kind of compensation, but if you prefer to not take any money you can load them to my bank account, everyone will be happy. |

If it's just promise of fame & glory, everyone can place their own value on that, versus time taken :) But for money, it's (too) easy to compare to actual competitive pay, thus potentially leading to bitterness from the outset.
Plus, if the work is not up to scratch, it's less hard feelings if it's just lost time, not lost money too. |
