The repeated ocurrence of people mindlessly deleting info and releases from CSDb really makes me think if kind of a two-class membership should be introduced.
Class one allows Joe average to post in the forum and leave comments (maybe even make additions) whereas class two should be applied for by sceners who actively want to work on csdb and who will be given the right to delete entries. The status shouldn't be given to anyone that drops a mail saying "Hey, I'm Joe X, can I have class two membership", but should be evaluated carefully.
Well, just some food for thought and discussion. Would be nice to hear what the admins and other people think. |

Nice idea, you could even combine it with my idea for 'flagged mutations' (class 1's mutations get flagged, class 2's mutations are performed right away) |

That's a great idea, which would prevent this fake account tampering of entries and still allow the CSDb to evolve like it has over the years.
Possibly even three classes, with one just below admin type access for true scene gurus that have the time to maintain and correct entries if necessary.
This, combined with a page that allows users to check on recent changes, would definitely cut back on and possibly eliminate the abuse that CSDb has unfortunately seen several times now, and also reduce the workload of the admins in fixing accidentally removed entries and such. |

Yes, a simple page with "last deleted entries" would be enough to make us shout out loud when somebody messes around in the CSDb. Better than having to discover some random deletions like in this case by accident. |

Actually a similar idea have been up before.
That idea was that when you create an account you get "class 1" status as you call it.
Then enough class 2 users must acknowledge the new user before he is upgraded.
Excatly how I'm not sure of yet, but I would very much like it to be automated in some way, so that me and the other admins doesn't have to check out all new accounts.
Exactly what permissions class 1 users have can be discussed. I think they should have more or less full rights, but as TDJ sugests their changes are public or something like that. |

Incredibly cool idea Steppe! All newly registered people should pass some process of evaluation and all accounts which already did mess up with the database and their actions were rejected should get the status of "low-level" visitors. |

You could make list of registered people public (with ranks) where we can list it by rank or by date of registration. Aprroval checkbox would be on the side and submit button on the bottom.
Later this list could also contain various interesting info (like number of added entries, number of posts in forums, number of votings , etc.) |

:)
So what we can agree on here is that we have to levels of users.
Class 1 users which are new, and Class 2 users which have full rights (the same as users have now).
The questions are:
1. What desides when a Class 1 user is upgradet to Class 2?
I don't want to check out all new accounts myself, and try to guess if they are for real or not. Neither do I think that a small selected group should do that.
My sugestion is that X number of Class 2 users must approve new users (perhaps a certain percentage). Any comments?
2. What are class 1 users allowed to do?
I still think it is very importaint that average Joe can come by CSDb, find his own entry here in CSDb (if its there) and go and fix it up/create it right away, and not have to wait for a long trial period.
But then there should at least be some possible way for class 2 users to check out these changes or something. Perhaps even undo'ing them?
