Sid Duzz It

Hi'yall,

I was wondering who else is using Shape's SDI editor around here. I would like to talk about the editor with other users about their experiences with it and maybe some technical blah blah aswell.

Cheers!

Hi,

I've been learning to use SDI lately. However, I don't really get the finalizing-thing at all, not even after reading the information from this discussion. My skills in coding etc. are pretty much on the "10 print "Uneksija rules":20 goto 10"-level, and uh, that's it. Only thing I can do on the blue screen of the C64 is to load files and run them. Could somebody please give me step-by-step instructions for finalizing an SDI-tune? I mean like exactly what to do... I tried to load some of the files mentioned in the doc but nothing happened, and trying to "load" anything, as the doc suggested, resulted in "out of memory error". Loading the s.sdi207-n -file resulted in weird graphics on the screen. I'm using WinWice-emulator but I guess it should work (I will use the real thing in the future!).

The thing is, I'd love to send a track to the SID compo, but the deadline is near (luckily extended to next Tuesday!), and I don't have time to learn this finalizing-thing since I need to finish my track in time and oh boy how sad it would be if I couldn't send my tune just because I can't "get it out of SDI". I know I should've tried to figure out the finalizing earlier but could somebody please help me, I'm desperate and can't figure out the finalizing without help... (I'm pretty sure I'll "get it" if somebody just helps me - I've learned to use SDI already so finalizing can't be impossible for me)

I'll try to explain it.

load up the modified turbo assembler that came with the editor
once inside the assembler, hit ^ key and then L so it says
load file : at the bottom of the screen.

Then type in the name of the source file for the player (like : s.sdi07-n for the 2.07 normal speed player) and hit return

when finished you should see the sourcecode.

now you can set some parameters at the top of the sourcecode (like rem_4ch = 1) thes can be tweaked according to the features you used in the tune, 1 = off and 0 = on. If the tune hangs up after assembling / starting, restart the assembler and change some parameters on until it works. I usually turn them all on ( = 0)

Then hit F8 so you get to the last line of the sourcecode. it should be a rts.

hit return 2 or 3 times to make room for the actual musicdata you saved from the editor (using leftstrg-s in music editor which saves the musicdata as a seq file to disc)

then hit ^ and E to load the music data seq file. if you did everything right then it should start loading the sourcecode of your music. once its finished hit F4 inside the assembler and your tune should start playing. If not then try tweaking the beforementioned parameters at the top of the player source.

If you get a error while compiling (f4) then restart the assembler, hit ^ and c to clear the memory and start over again.

Hi,

When the compo deadline was coming near a few months ago, a very nice person finalized the tune for me. Now I'm again working on a track, and I've got no clue if I finish it before the deadline of the Battle of the Bits compo, but just in case I manage to do it before it, it would be good if I finally learned how to finalize an SDI song. So last time I got to the point of loading my track to the modified turbo assembler, setting the parameters and hearing my song play correctly, but how do I actually save it? I don't know what "save it from the monitor" means as it says in the SDI user manual. There's a built-in machine code monitor in the WinVICE emulator, and I could use that (I've got a C64 with a rom expansion for a machine code monitor (and scandic letters too!), but I've got no clue how to use it or even how to activate it).

Again thanks for any help in advance... I'm sure I'll get the finalizing sooner or later :)
