Gamelamers about the demoscene
I just had to share this with you =)
From http://www.protocol42.com/ :
"
What's the news? Well, first off, I'd like to welcome Legalize as a co-conspirator of the Annual September Protocol 42 LAN party! Who is Legalize? He's just this guy, ya know? (some of you will get that)
Legalize runs an event called a "Demoscene", and I'm sure most all of you gamers have used and keygen or some sort of exe patching tool that had a cool little gui and some built in music.
Well, that's a "demo" in this respect. People involved in the demo scene have competitions to make an entire 3D playable game with multiple levels and interaction under certain critieria, for example, the size limit would be 96 KB. There are a large number of these sorts of "demos" available, (here's one... http://www.theprodukkt.com/kkrieger.html ). So in a nut shell, that is what the demoscene is about, pushing the limits of music, programming and graphics! Find out more about Pilgrimage here --> http://pilgrimage.scene.org/2006/index.html

Also, for the people that don't do IRC... I make sarcastic comments like "damn Seeds", "damn Germans", etc. all the time... it's nothing serious...

Quote: Wanderer was _never_ considered "top 10" in the NTSC demo scene when he was active.
This isn't "mere opinion", this is knowledge from experience. As part of the staff for majority of the NTSC demo scene magazines (Outline, Insight, Expose, Harakiri, Infinity, and Driven) my job was to gather news and votes - by phone. I'd call sceners monthly to get group updates and their opinions (votes) about the most recent releases. The general comments concerning any new WDR release were along the lines "terrible logos", "fake claims to first time ever routines", "did he rip that code also?", "Is the rumor about him using a B&W TV true? (because of the horrible color choices in his demos)", etc.
The only other magazines around were Point of View, which manufactured it's chart, nobody I spoke to voted for it. Loss of Carrier which was wishy-washy at best with it's material/content.
All I see are a list of disk mags that met with catastrophic failure with each magazine dying after only 2-4 issues. Is that why you changed your handle so often?
I then look at a well respected mag, Mamba, which didn't phone people at home to get opinions subject to bias.
Now I KNOW that I was not #1 at any time, but in the minds of 30+ people around the world who sent in their votes for those two months, I was considered to be :)
That is history, it isn't wishful thinking or unfounded. So you are mistaken when you say I was never considered to be in the top 10. History shows I was not only that but at top position. We could also dicuss a few polls taken on BBS's as well :) but we won't.
Moloch's claims remain unfounded. I stated what DID happen. Mind you he also claims a B&W tv was used to code when in fact I was retired by that point and it was used solely for a BBS.
Since I can't rewrite history, I'll consider this topic done with and move on to another thread. |

Euro magazine? haha Euro magazines were notorious for their incorrect information about the NTSC demo scene... and the fact that none of your fellow NTSC sceners would vote you in any top position shows the truth. (edit: especially Mamba)
You can navigate around anything said here - but what I say is the truth. I have no reason to lie, unlike others here, I have no agenda against you.
You can also slap down those magazines listed, but those were _the_ magazines of the NTSC demo scene. Some died quickly, but that doesn't change what they reported.

Blah blah and blah.
My point is that the votes were taken and the results show exactly what have I stated they showed.
You can cry incorrect information all you wish and you can base your opinion, or 'experience' on the people you phoned personally.
I will go with what history showed because I'm not interested in debating FACTS from two decades ago.
I wonder if I was so bad, was I asked by the members of Abyss to submit a part for Aftershock? Why was I ranked in the top 5 on Jimmy Z's BBS? Things that make you go hmmm :D
It's rhetorical though.... I'm finished this discussion |
