was wondering ? . ?

i was wondering which piece of game/demo code really stands out.

its easy to look at a game/demo and go - oooo nice gfx/ ooo top tune.

but which piece of code makes codies go " fuck me with a with fish, thats fucking awesome"

In my opinion there are two main disadvantages of PCM 8/12 bit samples on the C64.

Firstly twice as much memory is required to hold the sample (bearing in mind that you can pack two 4 bit sampledate in one byte using the traditional method)

Secondly the carrier tone in the background degrades the sound quality even further.

If you MUST use samples, use a high quality Wave Editor (Such as Soundforge on the PC) to resample/interpolate the sample to 8000/4000 khz etc and convert to 4 bit with dithering.

Even better, do not use samples at all, the C64's sound chip is amazing..
